I think that it is high fructose corn syrup. It is in everthing packaged especially junk food and it turns off the signal to your brain that you are full so people keep eating way to much food

Sadly, it's not food making us (americans) fat, it's lack of respect for what food SHOULD mean to us. Food should be seen as sustenance, but our society has made a full time job out of eating. Over indulgence is INHERENTLY BAD. WE, as humans, need air, water, and food..but even too much water or air is deadly..why would food be any different?
it's the same reason that the United States has a drug problem..according to Leonard Nimoy and the History Channel, we indulge without giving thought to appreciating having ANY at all. instead of thinking about conserving, we're more interested in hording OR using something up quickly so we won't 'miss' it when it's gone..
humans are the only creatures that knowingly destroy their only needs for their trivial desires. Air, water, soil...all will be reclaimed by this Earth. We are not killing the Earth, just making it uninhabitable for humans :(

I think it's because back in the day the servings we served one another were needed. Heck if you were out shoveling manure and farming your butt off all day I would give you all the food you wanted. The trouble is we've gotten lazy and our food habits have not changed. We still sit in front of huge portions and not burning off any of the fat.
Fast food restaraunts certainly don't help either.

I think we don't get enough exercise nor do we eat the right portions. When was the last time you went to a restaurant and did not take home a doggy bag? The portions are way to big. We also eat on the go, we have to many choices and not enough knowledge to make the right ones.

First of all to other people who have answered; it says food, not other behaviors. Stick to the question man! Answer is: Red meat, i.e. burgers, cheese, i.e. pizza etc..,ice cream, fried foods, i.e. french frys, potato chips, butter, bread, refined sugar, i.e. soda pop, all foods that contain hydrogenated oils. i.e. milk chocolate, ect., and don't forget about the beer! I think this pretty well covers it!

Beverages.
Beer
Soda
Juices
Anything alcoholic or sweetened.
If you drink water or green tea it is better for you. Get rid of the sweet tooth and change the sedentary lifestyle like being on the computer (chatting, viewing and games) and watching television.
