I've been keeping my hair braided/twisted for months now and I usually just snip my ends, but lately they have been breaking with the rubber bands. Today I'm going to switch to the non-break plastic bands, but for those of you with braids w/ no extensions - how do you keep your ends w/o them unraveling?? Is there anything else besides the plastic/rubber bands???
PS: If you want to throw in some ideas for natural hairstyles (african american), feel free! My hair is shoulder length and it's a wavy/kinky mix - front tends to be naturally thick & wavy, while my kitchen is thick & kinky!! LOL! This is the first time since I was a little girl that my hair has been natural (well almost, my perm has been growing out for 9 months and I've been trimming it; so most of it is natural, although the front has alot of "perm" left in it - I'm too chicken to just cut it all out haha).
*tink* here's to all my happy & nappy peeps out there! Thanks for the inspiration!

Erica L you're a dumbsh*t - my hair has not been in the same braids for months - haven't you ever heard of washing your hair while the braids are in anyway??

o.k. I also have natural hair no perm growing out or anything. you have to get rid of the stright ends and go all natural thats the only way it will stay. Other wise you have to use rubber bands. or you can have a little syndetic hair added to the ends and have them burned.so they would have to start braiding your hair first and when they are almost to the ends add the sydentic. Good luck!
Pay no attention to Ericka L she's stupid she dosen't understand african american hair and what we do to it.

STOP THE INSANITY! No more rubber bands, no weave, no glue. The answer is simple-beeswax. First of all, if possible, don't braid your hair all the way to the end anyway because that can be damaging. But if you really want to do that, use a little beeswax(at any beauty supply store). Added bonus, it also helps prevent split ends.Yes, it's what people with dreads use to twist their hair, but no it won't dread your hair up. You will have to wash the ends thoroughly when you want to redo them , though. CONGRATS on going natural. I have always had long(mid-back) hair but I got a relaxer and it thinned and damaged my hair so I had to cut it to a low fro andc it's already past my shoulders again. Take the plunge-it's not that bad

With my daughters, who have hair similar to yours I just braid the ends every tightly. My grandmother used to use thread (same color as your hair)
