The military has a dont ask dont tell policy which means exactly what it sounds like.

If it discovered you are gay you will be released under a General Discharge and 6 months later you can file to bump it up to an honarable discharge.

When you join the military they will specifically ask you if you are gay and it will be part of the paper work you have to sign.

Any time you are realesed from the military you cant file unemployment because the military wont just kick you to the curb. You have time to prepare for the civilian world before you whole discharge goes through.

No it's a General discharge and yes they can receive unemployment. Not all units will discharge a soldier for being gay though. I know a few that have been "found out" and are still in. If they are good soldiers some commands will disregard it. If it becomes a problems though they will take some kind of action ie. transfer or relief of duty. I think it's kinda sad personally. It's so dated.

During war time, it is unlikely they will receive a discharge. Hell, everyone would use it, if that were the case. More than likely, an individual will be transferred out and put in some garbage duty, somewhere. No! Unemployment is not an option!

NO -- you have no honorable service, so it is a General Discharge. You can NOT receive Unemployment either.

We had a gay guy at our unit and ive seen this before that if they can confirm it and your open about homosexuality then they dont kick yo out for that they find something else like financial irresponsibility beign a dollar late on one bill, or maybe a chapter 13 and you keep vet benefits.

You dont get discharged at all...at least not untill your term is up. Then you can choose to re-enlist or go your own way. You get no unemployement.

you cannot be discharged, that would be discrimination. but the military has a don't ask, don't tell policy. you don't flash your sexuality around, and others won't ask or bug you about it. Thats how it's supposed to be, but a lot of soldiers still dont feel comfortable with it.

not in israel. we have a law that says you can't harass someone due to sexual preference.

however, i am queer and i will *not* come out to my commander or anything. it's still the army. i did come out to some of my friends and some of the people i went to boot camp with. they actually had a lot of questions and i was quite happy to enlighten them.
