The short answer is no to DVD but yes to VHS

This is due to the encryption used on the hard drive. What you should be able to do is play the programs on your PC monitor if you have a TV card installed, and using video capture, save the footage on your HDD then with editing software convert the raw video into a format to put in a CD or DVD. If you do not have a video capture device on your computer there are many available at different prices at your local PC world / store.

Or just connect your old VHS recorder to your TV and record while playing the programme.

You can transfer Sky+ programmes to DVD fine using a component Scart lead, or to a VHS using a composite lead.
But bear in mind that if the programme is one of Sky's 'pay as you view' films, then they will have Macrovision protection and will not record on DVD or play back from VHS.
