the net is a great starting point for meeting people, but once you have met and found an online connection i think you should meet in real life and start the relationship face to face like in the old days!

I met my husband on-line. We met via an on-line community, and we weren't searching for anything. We were friends through snail mail and phone conversations for quite a while before dating.

I think that it can throw people off. People hear "we met online" and freak out.

My advice?

1) Take it slow. If you're younger, take it even slower. Don't use the internet as an excuse not to go out and be with your friends/meet other people in the real world.

2) Don't expect a relationship/marriage. That saved our relationship because we never expected it to work or fail. We lived in the moment. Sure we thought at the future together, but we didn't concentrate only on that.

3) Be confident in yourself first. Don't try to find a date online because you think you fail at real-life dating. Finding a date online shouldn't be your only outlet with the other sex.

4) YOU HAVE TO MEET! It's not a relationship if it can't come off of the computer. Meet and it has to be a mutual aggreement to make it succeed. BOTH of you have to work at it, especially if it's long distance.

TRUST is really important in long-distance relationships. Trust is key, and commitment is vital.

I have thought about it but I'm too much of a paranoid prude. I have visions of some psycho stalking me because I have been communicating with him and he now feels like we will be together at all costs. I imagine that people would lie a lot and I would much rather look someone in the eye to get a feel for their character. Maybe I watch too much Lifetime or maybe my job has me on guard (work in a prosecutor's office). I am too scared to do it but sometimes I wish I was more daring. I just have too much to risk such as mine and my family's safety, my peace of mind, my home security, etc. It's a scary thought but I wouldn't even consider it if the dating scene wasn't so picked over and slim. Life's tough. BE CAREFUL.

What better way to find love than to have this huge selection of people from all over the world looking for the same thing. You get to “try before you buy” so to speak. You can review their profiles; check out pictures, etc. before even contacting them. If you’re not interested, no one gets hurt. If you are interested, you have a chance to really get to know someone a little bit before you have to meet them in person. You can be pretty blunt with questions and really narrow in on the right person. The chance of finding someone that has similar interests and life-goals is much better. You instantly know if they have kids, want kids… where they live, maybe what the earn, if they smoke or drink, etc…

Without online dating…
Imagine seeing a cute guy/gal in a club. What do you know about that person? Not much. It takes a while to get to know them, find out what their beliefs are, tastes in music, work ethic, etc… and you usually would have to do this a bunch of times to find someone even close to what you were looking for. With on-line dating, you’re matched up much more closely than most random encounters. And it results in a much better chance of the relationship lasting.

I found my love on match.com and we’re still together. It was like we’ve known each other forever… total comfort and compatability.

My only advice is to be smart about it. If you meet someone you like, ask some questions that are important to you and get a feel if the guy/gal is genuine or not. Don't give out your phone number. Then meet in a public place for coffee or a drink. You'll find out quickly if the person is someone you'd like to get to know better. It took me three dates to find my one and only.

That sometimes only a desperate person would try online dating, but sometimes it is used to find the person that is right for the other and it makes people interact with each other. I wouldn't use online dating though.

I feel that online dating is not real. It's just my opinion because you can be talking to someone and they might not be who they are saying they are on the other side of that monitor. All I'm saying is be careful beacuse you never know what to expect from someone online!

my friend met her husband online.

I dont wanna do it, but never say never. :) Nothing wrong with it, I think. It's not just lonely and ugly who use it (or might be the misconseption). Actually there is so little time for the working people these days, there is little time to actively date. So, go for it. but obviously be careful.

depends on luck.

probability of getting lotto is 1 in 1000000000 but evev than 1 gets it. so people do find mates online.

in eastern countries it is quite different.
