My ex has bought a booster seat for me to keep in the house for when friends/relatives want to take me and our son out.I don't drive. The age says3-12 yrs weight 15kg -36kg.Although our son is not yet 2 he is bigger than average and weighs about the 15kg mark already. Is this booster seat suitable for him to use and is it within the new laws for child car safety as of september? My ex says it is and that I'm being a b***h by questioning it but I just want to know my son will be safe and legal.

You have every right to check. We had exactly the same problem.
When my daughter turned 2, she was 16Kg clothed for going out. She was not obese, but not thin and very tall - 3ft.
We went to various shops for advice, they all insisted that she needs a proper car seat, but none of them would fit her. Neither would most of the booster seats with backs on.
In the end we chose the Graco junior booser seat.
I did ring Graco first, the advice was that even though she is too small for the booster, she is too heavy for the straps in a car seat. The booster was the lesser of 2 evils, true she may hurt herself in a crash, but at least she would not break the straps and potentially fly through the windscreen.
My advice is, try him in the seats at major retailers, and ring the manufacturers help lines, Graco, Britax etc - get numbers from their websites.
You cannot be too careful with your childrens safety.

If he's the correct height then yes. a booster seat is designed so that when a child sits on it it brings him 2 the right height 4 the seat belt to fasten going across the chest and stomach as with an adult, if he's not tall enough the seat belt will cut into his neck so try him in it before u go out and it wouldn't be legal, if he's too small u'll need 2 buy a smaller 1. ur best off buying a birth-4yrs 1 or a 9months - 4yrs then a booster seat when he's big enough

all of the different posters are precise. Your newborn is meant to be a minimum of 40 pounds to be in a booster seat, regardless of if it relies upon on the carseat rules on your state. here in Texas a newborn must be 4 and 40 pounds. inspite of the incontrovertible fact that my son has surpassed the two those standards, i'm not putting him in a booster seat for a minimum of yet another year. I had the same subject too final year, my son grew to become into 3 and 35 pounds.. not almost super sufficient or weigh sufficient for a booster. My son rides in a Graco Nautilus 3 in a million automobile seat. He loves it and it accomodates as much as 60 pounds with the harness.. and 60-one hundred pounds for the extreme returned/low returned booster it is going to become. This seat i've got self assurance I have been given the main for my money. This carseat is likewise obtainable in a purple shade for the females.

The law on this is changing soon, and they want children in specific car seats up to age 11. I wouldn't put a 2 year old on a booster seat, as the seat belt is completely inappropriate. The harness has to be over both shoulders and securing between the legs. Don't do it!

It's called COMMON BLOODY SENSE!!! I have an 11 yr old that is 5'8 and 12 stone.....do I put him on a booster seat?? Of course I don't. Why the change in law is to open parents eyes....and to get them to think about their kid's safety. How many times to I see small kids without a booster seat....the belt is cutting into their necks...and if they did have an accident...it would probably cause them more injury than if they didn't wear one.....SO like I said.....Common Sense prevails!!!
