Because your honest, well-thought-out, well-supported disagreement with my most basic values is a deeply felt rejection of me, personally...(yeah, right)

It wouldn't - I believe every1 has the right to their own beliefs and opinions and I think that is what makes the world a better place. I think that respect is important and that accepting everyone and their beliefs is an important step in maturing and in having a good sense of self.
People who are threatened by this or insulted aren't comfortable enough with themselves - they lack confidence.

It would not insult be or bother me at all. I understand that people are going to have different beliefs that are influenced on them from different aspects in their lives. Their parents, culture, enviroment, and personal experience is why they believe in what they do. No two people are going to believe in the exact same thing. All anyone can do is just have respect for others.

It would not be insulting to me if you held different beliefs than I did. What would be great would be if we could have a dialogue regarding those and in no way making efforts to change the others view. What is also nice if allowing conversation to bring new perspective, whether that changes your view point on your own or strengthens your existing viewpoint.

It is perfectly fine that you may not hold the same beliefs as I do. Just keep them to yourself. The insulting part becomes an issue when somebody actually thinks that pushing their own personal agenda onto me would EVER change my beliefs.

It wouldn't. I'd just think you weren't as intelligent as I am because you haven't figured it all out the way I have, but since I wouldn't say that aloud the insult to you would simply remain in my head; and I'd make a mental note not to get too friendly with you because you are not at my intelligence level....... :):) or else I'd be your friend and just secretly know that my friend isn't quite as intelligent as I am.
Isn't human nature "wonderful", and is it amazing that any of us can ever be friends?

It doesn't insult me at all when someone else has a different belief than mine. To each his own. Live and let live. I don't shove my beliefs down anyone's throat & I expect the same respect in return.

I wouldn't.
If you believed something silly like "All people with brown hair should move to France!" I'd say that you were not too bright, but I wouldn't mean it as an insult so much as an assessment.

Doesn't insult me. But I know what you are talking about because lots of people are insulted by my beliefs too.

people want to be sure that thier religion is the right one. the best way to do that is to have the backing of every single person that they can, strength in numbers. If 95 percent of people dont believe in what you do, then you're not going to feel as secure that youre ideas are right.

It wouldn't insult me. Some people, however, hold strongly to their beliefs. If someone states that they believe something else, they become angry, as they believe that their opinion is right, and everybody else is wrong.
