We're very very lucky in our area - we are provided with three types of wheelie bin that are all emptied once a fortnight, and I know that our area is considered one of the most advanced for household recycling in this country.

We have a green bin for plastic, cardboard, paper, glass, clothing and shoes etc. The brown bin is for kitchen and garden waste and a grey one is for general household rubbish that can't be recycled. It's brilliant, because it means recycling is easy even for the laziest or busiest people! Our green bin is always full, the brown one is in summer with lawnmowing etc, and the grey one only has a couple of bags in it a fortnight.

In other areas, I try to buy products from companies with a good ethical record. I also try to buy products free from chemicals as much as possible, e.g. REN skincare, organic food.

I think we do quite well in our house but I know we could still do a bit better.

I buy green/fair trade products all the time. Most of the foods I buy are organic. I buy green product toilet paper, paper towels, and cleansers. I buy organic soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and makeup. I usually shop at Whole Foods or co-ops. I bring my cloth bags back to reuse. I buy local when available. I have an organic garden with tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, and herbs. I recycle what I can Plastic Bags, Magazines, Newspapers, Paper, Cans, and Bottles.

I always recycle....never think of green/fair trade items. I buy what I need in the brand I prefer.

Of course. I wish there were more healthy fair trade foods though. I avoid caffeine so tea, coffee and chocolate are out. Most of the rest of what is available is full of sugar. Pasta is OK but they don't always have organic. Bananas I currently have to choose between fairtrade or organic, sometimes you can get both in one package.

I recycle and take the bottles and cans in myself--our city has a recycling program and we recycle everthing else with them.
