I have always been close to both, mum & dad. But my dad died suddenly 5 years ago and it ripped me appart, I thought i'd get closer to my mum after that, but I think we drifted away from each other. Then 3 years ago she developed cancer, and I thought I couldn't cope with losing her aswell, so we became close again. My mum beat cancer & we are solid.
The thing is, be close to both......because you never know what will happen.

Depended on what stage I was in in my life. Obviously, as a girl, there were times when I needed my Mother a bit more (not to say that Dads can't be great support in those times too), but I don't recall being more close with one over the other. Now, as an adult and a parent myself, I find myself very close to both of them, but in different ways. My Mom is my best friend and confidante and my Dad is still my biggest supporter and the one I can have truly intellectual conversations with.

my dad left when i was 2. Didn't like my step dad and resented my mum. I became closer to my grandad who became my father figure. I'm very close to my mum now we're like best mates. Respect her so much since having kids myself.

I'm a lot closer to my mom. I don't talk to my dad much and my step-dad just isn't as good as my mom.

For me it was neither .. had a pretty rough childhood .. was pretty much on my own life from the moment i gained conciousness (sp?)

I never really did understand the parenting side of things until i had a daughter who is very close to me and i cherish every bit of time i spend with her ... only now do i understand the reason why it is important for a child to have someone to look up to ..
