Any legionaires on the site? I'm thinking about joining and wanted any insight available. Has the legion been involved in the middle east or are they still mainly in Africa?

I was a temporary advisor the the legion about 45 or 46 years ago. At the time I was a freelance, contract soldier (mercenary). And also at that time, there were still some of the"old guard" serving. But in '62 the paratrooper regiment was disbanded, and a lot of the old guard went with them. After that, the Legion wasn't the same. I haven't kept up, but if you're a hardy soul, you'll do all right, and it's an experience you'll remember all your life!!

I have a friend who is ex-legion, says he loved it, it is a very organised and professional outfit these days, but, you`ve still gotta be pretty tough.
