I have a Sony DAV-BC250 5-disc surround sound system. the other day, i was using it heavily and the amp went out. the unit works, except there is no audio no matter what i do. the problem is, i don't know what the amp looks like or where it is inside the unit. any insight would be appreciated.

Check out the back of your receiver and see if there are any fuses you might have blown. If you are lucky enough that is your problem. Remove the fuses and replace with the same as you took out, if not familiar with fuse replacement, then take them to Radio Shack and they will help you to get the right fuse for your receiver. Your receiver may have some sort of circuit breaker instead of fuses, if that's the case you probably just need to re-set the circuit breaker.

You probably blew a fuse (if there is one) or fried the amp. You'll need to have it services at a Sony authorized service center.

Could be some component on your board that comes free when the board heats up with use, and settles down when turned off. Try aiming a fan at it and see if it makes it to 30 minutes. If that is the problem and you are handy, you could try adding a computer fan in the box.
