Your teeth are heald in place by small ligaments and fibers. If you get braces, braces move your teeth into a different position stretching those ligaments and fibers! If you don't wear a retainer those ligaments and fibers will bounce right back into place, pulling your tooth/teeth back into the position it was before your braces.
Since everyone in this entire world has this, then yes everyone would have to wear a retainer to keep their teeth in a new position!
although from my experience, I wore my retainer everynight for about two years, and now 7 years after getting my braces off I never even wear my retainer, but can still put it in. I can tell that it moves my teeth slightly, but not much.

Everyone I've known (including myself and my sisters,) who had braces had to have a retainer. The retainer keeps your teeth from going crooked again because once the braces are off your teeth still aren't "set" in their new position. I wish that my lingo bar on the bottom teeth had been left on because those four teeth are crossed over each other now. I can always spot people of my generation who had braces because the top teeth are perfectly straight, but the 4 bottom ones in front are crooked like mine. So you see, those retainers really do have a purpose!

Be married to it! Dont listen to the dentist... what I mean is do what the dentist says, but go beyond that. After a year with my retainer I stopped wearing it, now I have to get braces again! Another two years, my last two years of high school. Put it in occasionally and if its tight at all wear it the next couple of nights.

I think you do need a retainer after braces to keep your teeth from moving after being pulled tight by the braces. Your orthodontist should tell you how long you have to wear it. Its not that bad, after awhile you will only have to wear it at night and not all the time. Anywayz, talk to your dentist.

my wife had her braces taken off 6 years ago and she has to wear the retainers for the rest of her life. She wears it everynight. If she doesn't wear it for a couple of days its hard for her to put her retainer in because her teeth hava already started shifting.

once you get braces they cement metallic squares onto your enamel. Then they connect a cord to the squares and placed rubber bands to carry it in position. about once a month you go decrease back to the orthodontist and he tightens the braces by ability of eliminating the bands and adjusting the cord. through the years, the braces adjust your enamel to be straighter. many times, the orthodontist tells you to stay faraway from meals that are troublesome and from gum. in case you retain on with all the well being practitioner's classes, then you are better probably to get your braces off contained in the anticipated time because you circumvent doing any attainable harm for your enamel and the braces. Your enamel will sense slightly loose even as you've braces, yet it truly is accepted because the burden from the braces and the pulling by ability of the cord works to loosen them slightly to be able to modify the enamel to a diverse position it truly is from crooked to instantly. it truly is particularly painful and regularly the braces dig into your mouth. once you get your braces off, you've gotten to placed on a retainer searching on your treatment. I had braces for a pair of years and each thing changed into worth it because now that my enamel are instantly it truly is a lot a lot less complicated to devour, brush, and floss than it changed into even as they were crooked.

I don't think everyone has to have a retainer, but it helps keep things in place for a while. I had one, but it wasn't for long. Check with your orthodontist if you need one, and if so, for how long.
