When I get my hair done (in Ohio) I give my hair stylist a 25% tip. This always seems to disappoint the stylist, like it's not enough. I get a color and style and pay over $100 with tip and it's like balked at. What's the protocol?

I;ve heard of upscale salons that don;t do the tip thing. They just adjust their prices to pay their talent well.

THAT IS MORE THAN GENEROUS!! Holy cow! That's an insult to YOU for her to look disappointed. 20% is considered a more than generous tip if you are happy with the result.

I am a stylist and I appreciate any tip I am given. The general rule here in California is 20%. I only sometimes get that....and it's okay with me. I would find a stylist that loves making you happy and that's all that matters to her, not the tip!

I am a stylist and try not giving her a tip at all, its an incentitive, not mandatory!!!! She should be more appreciative, there are other stylist who would gladly take you as a customer and appreciate it. Some people forget where they started as a stylist, when they were "hungry" for clients...........

Are you tipping on the total cost (product bought and service) or just the service? In any case, I'd be thrilled with 25%. I have worked on people for 3 hours (color), have them dance in delight and then pay the bill and walk out.
On behalf of all hairdressers, I say thank you to you, FOR your hairdresser, who clearly has no manners.
In upscale salons, that's pretty standard (the no tipping thing). i couldn't imagine it, that's what pays for gas, parking (we park in the ramp on campus), lunch......

Your stylist is a mess. You are giving him/her more than enough tip. If thats what your giving then thats what he/she should be happy to take.

GREED is everywhere!
