Yes you are thinking of the draft. With the military being volunteer basis now you are making the choice to join. When the draft was around they were not allowed to draft the only son so that the son could carry on the family name.

My son signed up he was an only child. My husband is dead. He served in Iraq in 03/04. The only way he could get out of it is if your husband was killed during a war and he was the only surviving son. I'll be back with the link in a second

Yes he can go overseas for war, I just asked my husband who has been in twelve years and is recruiting now for only five more months, thank goodness. I guess there was some place on the paperwork when he joined asking questions about only male or something.

The military can not take your only son because then you will have no family left. You have to at least have two children.

You are thinking of the "sole surviving son" clause. This has to do with when another son, or more than one, has been killed already and you have only the sole surviving son to carry on the family name.
Only worked in draft armies during WWII and later. Volunteer and you void any part of it.

right now they cant because we are not losing soldiers left and right but look at it this way maybe if we go in to world war 3 there may be a huge chance for your daughters and sons to go to war since more countrys have bombs planes and nuclear war heads and that may be the end of the world but dont really worry about it. right now it is only volunteering.

If he willingly joined to military, they can. Unfortunately, the military is fighting an unjust war against innocents. I hope your son comes back safe.
