Can anyone please tell me why my male pet budgerigar keeps vomiting a clear liquid all over his head? He usually does it early in the morning so that he looks really rough when I get up, but then he picks up as the day goes on. Does he need a friend do you think? He doesn't do it every day just once every 1 or 2 weeks.

Yes, take the bird to a vet..preferably one who is a bird specialist. I have found that the common ordinary variety of veterinarian doesn't know much about birds. Call around and ask them if they have a good knowledge of birds first.

The budgerigars become agitated, and chew on anything in search of minerals due to lonliness and depraved minerals.

Depleted birds over-engorging on grit or Cuttlefish bone causing vomiting in budgerigars and occasionally death from a blocked gizzard.

Laying hens fall ill, vomit and may die from gizzard obstruction after engorging on the shell grit.

Anyhow, Seeking wild bird vet's advice will definitely ease the problem

maybe he has an allergy to seeds? best check with a vet and may be vary his diet by trying a different brand of bird seeds? I have never seen budgie vomit... i had a budgie for 18 years. this is a worry but hope it's not serious.

Well if he vomited it wont land all over his head so i doubt that is vomit. when male birds vomit its actualy called regurgitation and its an act of courtship that they do to find a girlfriend. well this doesnt sounds like normal regurgitation or "vomit" so maybe take him to the vet just in case!

vomiting on his head is a tuff thing to do!!! sure he is not just trying to sling water (from the water dish) onto his body to bathe? try getting up early and see what he is doing to get his head wet, that is with out him seeing you.

Dunno, that's weird. My vet told me if my male started upchucking it was because he was trying to show my female he's a good provider (I don't know bout you, but I'd like a guy to give me something other than puke). Maybe he is lonley or very "excited" to be with a female. Good luck!
