if it isn't air tight, bacteria and other things will grow in it. If it is filtered, free of impurities and kept in an air tight container, then it shouldn't go bad, might taste stale, but it won't be bad.

if the eater is sealed then no, but it can grow some forms of bacteria. if you leave water in a glass then that will have mold, all things go bad sooner or later. try it.
It turns out that there are two ways for water to go bad. You can easily demonstrate the first way by filling a bucket with tap water and leaving it on the back porch for several days. After about a week, you will find that the water in the bucket contains mosquito larvae, algae and various other life forms,

Well you never reuse a water bottle without cleaning it and never drink water that has been sitting in the sun... so I dont think the actual water goes bad, but there can be bad things in it.

My sister actually stored some bottled water down in her basement. And one day there was water all over the floor. Well to come to find out the bottle ended up breaking after so much time. So don't store bottled water for to long my friend.....lol

If opened then capped, but left outside of a fridge or freezer, yes. If left unopened, or opened then capped then put in a fridge or freezer, no. Bacteria and parasites that feed on water sources will find any and all ways to get to a water source, including you're freshly opened water bottle.

The water itself is not bad, but it can stagnate. Bottled water is said to last up to 1 year and then it sours. You can always boil the water to make the impurities die out, or you can get some water purifying tablets from your local army/navy store.

Unless it's contaminated in some way, it should keep indefinitely if it's sealed. But if you drink directly from a water bottle, for example, you'll contaminate it with your own bacteria, which will multiply. In this case, it's best to drink it fairly quickly, say within 1 - 2 hours. That's a guess.

Context?

Well, without context, here goes. If the water has critters in it, they could multiply. If the water's exposed, stuff falls into it, such as dust, and it will be "stale" -- as it were.

Giving some idea of what you mean and why you're asking this question would enable people to answer.

It can get stale. eventually even the least bit of bacteria will grow. and if it is stored in plastic containers that are hit by sunlight, the water will leach chemicals from the plastic--eeeeww. sanitize your storage container, and change out in a couple of years. use glass if possible, OR use a traditional canning method and rest assured.
