I'm begging you to NOT color your hair black at all. The shampoos that are 12-24 shampoos will not wash out when using a color that's darker than your color now. Before you do it, please consult a professional. If you choose to do it on your own, be prepared to either grow it out, have the color stripped out (only available as an option if you use/used permanent color), a full head of back-to-back bleach foils. There are no guarantees made, that even with any of those steps, you will be back to your natural color if it's lighter than a light brown. You will have to be satisfied with a brunette color, (keep in mind there are several shades of brown) and eventually be able to continue to highlight to your shade of blonde. The cost alone should be a deterrant, we charge a minimum of $150 for color correction, and only $55-70 for a full head color. Save yourself the $100-120.
Also to keep in mind is the over shape of your hair. If it's too chemically damaged, (assuming you have it colored, or do it yourself) we (your hairdresser) may not be able to do anything for you.
Do yourself a favor, go in for a consultation, have them show you what a true black swatch against your skin looks like. you'll be surprised at how *not* good it looks. So go for a brown, just have it done professionally. Ask people whose color you like where they get it done, they're usually flattered! pay no attention to those that say they did it alone and at home.
Good luck!

You really shouldn't try this at home - invest in a hairstylist. Seriously. And I'm not one. You can't lighten dark hair by using a lighter coloured boxed hair dye. The colour needs to be lifted (or stripped) by a hairstylist before the lighter colour is added. A couple of years ago, when I was trying to save a few pennies, I began using boxed colour. For some unknown reason, even though it was red I was after (I'd had it for years), it turned dark. I mean DARK brown. I was horrified. I waited a few days, then purchased another box of red colour to try and fix it. It didn't work, stayed the same. Found a good hairstylist who informed me you can't go lighter with a dark hair dye, only darker. He had to strip the dark brown, then reapply the red. It looks great now. And although many people swear by box colour, I haven't ventured there again! Hope this helps.

There are products like Nice and Easy that wash out in a few shampoos, but they are not recommended for blonde hair. See a stylist first, or try a lighter shade of brown and see how you like your hair darker. If you are dead set on black...try a wig first...you may regret such a drastic dye job, and stripping dark color off your hair would be extremely damaging.

You can't just 'try' black. If you hair is light it will turn bluish-purple or green, depending on the base pigment in the tint. And any colour that states that it is 'semi-permanent' will stain natural blond hair. Going black is a serious commitment that you should carefully consider because if you don't like the results, getting black out of your hair is not only damaging and time consuming, it can be very expensive.

try a color rinse or wash at first, nothing permanent in case you don't like it. I'm not blonde, but I tried darkening my hair once - it came out almost jet black and I looked like Morticia Adams. Was not for me and unlike any other coloring I've had done which faded within the first few weeks, it lasted almost 3 months.

Try some temporary hair color first that washes out,and if you decide you like it,buy an expensive hair color and test a strand first and see if it colors right, but if were you. I would get it done professionaly.

Ok if you're naturally a lighter color, be careful even "Trying" black. My friend "tried" black and it took months to wash out. Plus if you decide to go black it will be very high maintainence to keep your roots hidden. Blond will be extremely obvious on black.
Double think your choice
but if you decide to do it. Good Luck!

I'd be careful about dying your hair if your hair is blonde, temporary colorations could stay in a lot longer than you expect. My sister (with dirty blonde hair) died her hair a dark redish brown with a dye that was supposed to last about 2 weeks but it stayed for a couple of months...she went through a lot of trouble to change that color so she dyed it other shades, and she wasnt really happy with those either. they didnt look bad but yeah well, i guess my advice is just to really think through it before you dye it, because you could be stuck with it for longer than expected

Yeah, try some temporary washes at Sally's Beauty Supply. Or Henna.

DON'T DO IT!! There are *very* few people who look good in black hair and it is almost impossible to fix the color once it's done without damaging your hair.
