I went to meet my boyfriend’s family this past weekend, I had a nice conversation with his dad, but he said something that hurt me. My boyfriend’s family is wealthy, his father holds an important position in the church we attend, his family history is “impressive”... my boyfriend has a good “track record” (as far as his dad knows) I don't. I got married when I was 17 divorced at 21, I have a son who is now 10. I was not raised in the Church I belong to now, but I was raised religious and with good morals. My family is upper middle class.
His dad said, “I worry about your track record. I cant see what you are all about. I can with other girls who where raised in the Church, I know they have done this or that… and can guess who they are based off of that”
OUCH! How should I take that? Should I tell my boyfriend and see if he can shine a little light on the meaning…would that only make him worry? What his dad thinks is important to him.
