Lets sit around the fireplace and talk about your biblical roles.
Any discussion of bondage and the Bible would be remiss if the Biblical role outlined for women was omitted. In both the Old and New Testaments women are assigned a position not appreciably different from that of domestic servants. Their status is demeaning, debilitating, and wholly incompatible with self-respect and confidence. Except for Mary, Eve, Ruth, Sarah, Rachel, and a few lesser figures, few biblical women have roles of significance, and even fewer are worthy of emulation. Eve, for example, is blamed for the creation of Original Sin. The Bible says as much: "For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner (1 Tim. 2:12-14, NIV)." Is it any wonder that women's groups oppose this narrative? With his usual wit, Ingersoll once observed: "...nearly every religion has accounted for all the devilment in this world by the crime of woman.

What a gallant thing that is! And if it is true, I had rather live with the woman I love in a world full of trouble, than to live in heaven with nothing but men (Ingersoll's Works, Vol. I, p.358)." One of the saddest and most perplexing dilemmas one can experience in modern society is confronting women who strongly believe and defend a book that so clearly assigns them a degrading and subservient status. How do you reach those who are defending a philosophy that is so totally opposed to their interests? To use the vernacular, the Bible is sexist and permeated with male supremacy, as the following verses show only to well: "...and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee (GEN> #:16)." "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man;.... (1 Cor. 11:3)."

"Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man (1 Cor. 11:9)." "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife.... Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husband in every thing (Eph. 5:22-24)." Anyone desiring more proof should read: Deut. 21:10-14, 24:1-4, Judges 5:30, Esther 1:20-22, Rom. 7:2, 1 Col. 3:18, Titus 2:4-5, 1 Peter 3:1, Lev. 12:2, 5, Gen. 3:20
So ladies...who do you pray to...and why?

Now you understand how we end up skipping church, practicing witchcraft and becoming lesbians. ;)
Seriously, the very points you raise are the ones I left Christianity over.

i agree with williamzo, you entirely left out the bible's description of how a husband is to treat his wife. If you are going to quote the Bible, quote everything that is relevant to the subject. Make sure your research is thorough before you decide to put such a respected book on trial. The Bible is God's word, so who are you seeking to insult? I really don't think it would be in your best interest to get in an argument with Him about what place He intended for a Christian woman to have in a family. The one that He gave them is one that is deserving of much honor and respect. Stop twisting the few scriptures that you know on this subject, and leave the instructing of Christian women to the Christian men who love them.

Read the last chapter of Proverbs. You'll find a description of a virtuous woman, who's value is "greater than Rubies." You'll read about an affluent woman who works and earns her own money, buys property, is involved in civic life, and is a great leader. She's the example I look to.
I agree that some religions use the Bible as an excuse to degrade women - sad really. My church always refers to womanhood as something to be honored and treated with dignity. One top leader went so far as to say that in the final judgment, the first question a man will be asked is "How did you treat your wife?"

OT scripture reflects the norms of society--it was patriarchal back then. Don't scare the other ladies--the bible also says that the husband should love his wife. Would a truly loving husband subject his wife to anything that you suggest? Look to the model of the Holy Family or the Trinity if you want to know what this true love is.

theres nothing wrong with accepting your role and what you are whether a man or a woman ... neither is demeaning if both are under God . . . i know, thers alot of women running around wanting to wear the pants and alot of guys bending over and dropping their pants ... so which makes the world a better place? So ... women are supposed to be under the mans foot while he bullies her around and makes her walk 10 steps behind him? ... nothing is further from the truth. A christian man will love and cherish his wife and respect her always ... but the woman is supposed to accept her husband as the head even as the man is supposed to accept God as his head. I think we all have the capacity to reject who and what we are and rebel against that ... that doesnt mean its better and that doesnt mean its right. If a man decides he is a woman, that doesnt make him a woman it just makes him gay. ... same if a woman decides to throw off her role of what she actually is ....neither changes reality, and neither makes the world a better place.

Who do I pray to JESUS CHRIST who do you pray to?
I am a Christian lady and i agree with this verse it is about what a Christian wife should be
The Virtuous Wife
10 Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
And willingly works with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar.
15 She also rises while it is yet night,
And provides food for her household,
And a portion for her maidservants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
From her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,
And her lamp does not go out by night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle.
20 She extends her hand to the poor,
Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes tapestry for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “ Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.
Proverbs 31
the bible is not sexist its the Holy word of GOD
I will be praying for you may God bless you

Well, that is a horrible question for me. But the role of the woman in the old testament reflects the way females have been seen historically. I prefer the image of the woman the new testament shows. Anyway, it is a matter of faith, and each person has to find a way to deal with it.

alot of the things you say are true ,but so much is taken out of context,there were some very influential women in the Bible,Deborah for example, do you know who she is,how about the example of the proverb 31 women. women hold more regard then you would like to believe.the Bible does state that women need to submit to husbands, but did you know it also tells husbands to love their wives and not to be harsh with them

like most things of this earth the creation of women second is a shadow of trueth . That God wants to bring out to us a way of love or an aspect of love through submittion to others . simply put the women was formed second to help show
us this love. You can see this Love of submittion through out the bible children to parents wifes to husbands ,husbands to Christ ,Christ to the Father.eph.5:21-28
