Airlines do most certainly demand that the morbidly obese person pay for two seats. And that occurs when they are unable to squeeze into one seat. Someone wide enough to require that much space, needs to pay for the priviledge by paying for two seats or flying first class where the seats can accomodate them.
I have seen people denied seating on a flight because the flight was full and two seats together could not be arranged. It is a safety issue as well, both for the passengers and for the staff. Would you want to be responsible for getting someone that large out of their seat if they were hurt? The reality is that morbid obesity is unhealthy and a risk, not only to the one that is obese but often to those who are responsible for their safety. So, to answer your question, it has more to do with size than weight, if ones hips will not fit inside the demensions of the seat, then one must pay for two seats.

Once you are to big to comfortably fit in the airplane seats and spill over into the other seats they make you buy a couple of tickets. It is really up to the person working the counter, they eye you up and if you look to big to them they make you buy.

the weight doesn't matter,it's how wide you are ,if you can't fit in between the arm rest ,or there isn't enough room for the person beside you, that's when you have to buy another seat for yourself
