For the same reasons women cheat, too.
- lack of morals
- lack of loyalty
- lack of integrity
- selfishness
- neediness
- inability to take responsibility for their actions and live in general
- personal weakness
- flawed personalities
- using sex as an escape
- emotional baggage
For every guy who likes to dip his little twinkie, there is a woman out there who doesn't know how to keep his legs closed.
And every person who cheats will create all this convoluted rationalization as of why they do it. That they are alone, than they feel insecure or lonely, that they didn't know what they were doing, that it didn't mean anything. Whatever.
All the reasons why men and women do it have been listed above. Trying to look cheating any other way is just making up excuses IMO.
*** EDIT ***
JUST BECAUSE YOUR PARTNER IS NOT 'THE ONE', THAT DOESN'T GIVE ONE THE RIGHT TO CHEAT.
COMMITMENT AND LOYALTY ARE NOT BASED ON HOW YOU FEEL FOR SOMEONE OR WHO YOU ARE WITH. IT'S ABOUT YOUR INTEGRITY AND YOUR ABILITY TO RESPECT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU.

Men and WOMEN cheat for a number of reasons.
Here are a few:
1) Fear of something better being out there. Even in the best relationship men often wonder if they would have a more sexual relationship with this or that woman, and sometimes if the interst is mutual, experimination happens.
2) Not getting approval or love at home.
3) Not getting respect at home.
4) Opportunity...a lot of loyal men would cheat if given a beautiful, pliant woman to cheat with.
5) Shelving, this is when a man starts cheating to find the next girlfriend while still being in the relationship with his gf/wife, it is only done by the spiteful or super selfish but it happens.
Remember for the man to cheat a woman has to comply. Everything I have answered can be reversed on women as well. We are human and our flaws are human, not gender related.
I hope those are some answers your looking for.

Alot of people here have given reasons for cheating...by both men and women.....I don't "cheat" but I know people that have, and it's usually because there is some need/desire either sexually or emotionally that just isn't being filled by their partner. They may still be in love with their partner but feel there is a need that either can't or won't be met by that person and they feel so strongly about that need having to be filled that they get it from someone that can/will give it to them....they don't even necessarily have to have any real feelings for the person their cheating with.....it's just a way to fulfill that particular need or desire. I'm not saying it's right....I'm not saying it is a good way to handle the problem at hand.....I'm just providing an answer to your question on why some people cheat. It is impossible to provide politically correct fluff to this question because there is nothing politically correct about the act of cheating on your significant other. It's just wrong, plain and simple. Everyone knows it's wrong. The person being cheated on, if they find out, is hurt by it.....the person doing the cheating, knows it's wrong because they do their best to hide it and keep their partner from finding out. If it was in any way alright, no one would try to hide it and no one would be devastated by it when it happens to them.

Many men cheat for various reasons. Some for an ego boost, some because they feel they are God's gift to women and they believe they are doing the female a favour, some because they cannot relate or communicate with their partners honestly. Men and women both are guilty of being unfaithful and they look for any type of excuse or try and rationalize their reasons for their infidelity.
Bottom line though is that cheating, in my opinion, perhaps may make the person feel better about themselves for a short period of time. In the long haul though the cheater not only attempting to fool their partner but themselves also.

I think men cheat for alot of different reasons. Some cheat out of boredom. Some feel something is lacking at home so instead of trying to fix it they go outside the marriage. Some men cheat because it is culturally acceptable in their country. Some cheat simply because they can. There is no good reason to do so. If you are unhappy or unsatisfied with one woman then get out of the marriage or better yet don't get married at all.

well, I am not an expert, but there are a few reasons I have seen.
1. They just like sex
2. They love the thrill of the chase
3. The relationship they are in lacks something meaningfull--ie.. they have a jealous or overly possessive girlfriend.
4. According to science, the male population is driven by the desire to spread their genes as much as possible.
there are many other reasons.. and surprise surprise some are the same reasons women cheat.

Out of selfishness, they believe that cheating will benefit them in some way. It could be that they don't feel that they are getting respect, appreciation, and affection at home. It could be that they are seeking excitement and get a thrill out of sneaking around. It could be that they get caught up in the feeling of the moment and act without thinking things through.
Whatever the cause, there appears to be a benefit for them to cheat or they wouldn't do it, and at least in the moment, the benefits seem to outweigh the negatives.

Fair enough.
I think that some have poor impulse control. They don't take their significant other's feelings into consideration, they just think about the sex and that's it.
Then there are some that just aren't getting it from their wife/girlfriend, and so they look to other outlets.
Those are not valid reasons btw, because there isn't one.
Personally, I believe in being faithful to that special someone..and if she's not taking care of business in the bedroom, I would find out why instead of cheating.

Because men like variety and some of them act on it. Like most of their animal counterparts, men are hardwired to propagate the species, meaning their instinct is to impregnate as many as possible. But UNLIKE their animal counterparts, men have a conscience, marriage, mortgages, alimony payments, etc. So because of that stuff, most men resist the urge to cheat. But the ones who do like the sensation of being with someone new or different. They like the hunt, the conquest, etc. It's sort of the same reason men like looking at porn...It can show sex with a different woman as much as they want, and even if they aren't the acutal ones having the sex, at least they can imagine it's them.

men can not settle down with one woman and keep it faithful to the marriage or relationship, it is a known fact that men have a need to play a game that involves being sexually with as many woman as they can get in there life time. Its a competition between men, and unlike women, men will marry a women, and vow to her, however they will keep a door or window open with another women incase you find out or he ends up divorced for another reason, he has a back up. Men can not be alone, they can not stay single and once they have been married, they have to be married again, soon after..........
