Among those beliefs crucial to Christianity few are of greater importance than that of the Resurrection. Paul went so far as to allege the very foundation of Christianity rests upon its occurrence.

1Cor. 15:14 "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain." ( also: 1 Cor. 15:17)

Yet, why should the Resurrection be of such significance.(?) Elijah raised a child from the dead (1Kings 17:17, 21-22); Samuel said to Saul, "Why hast thou disquietedme, to bring me" (1Sam. 28.7, 11, 15); Elisha raised the dead son of a Shunammite ( 2 Kings 4:32, 34-35); a dead man being lowered into a grave revived when he touched the bones of Elisha (2 Kings 13:21); Moses and Elijah revived at the time of the Transfiguration ( Luke 9:28, 30 );the saints arose at the time of Jesus' death ( matt. 27:52-53 ); Jairus' daughter rose from the dead (Matt. 9:18, 23-25 ); the widow at Nain's son rose from the dead (Luke 7:11-15 );

and Lazarus rose from the dead ( John 11:43-44 ). All of these people ascended from death and all did so before Jesus. So why attribute so much importance to the event. By the time Christ rose from the dead this was a rather common occurrance. Moreover, people not only before Jesus but after as well. Peter raisedTabitha and Paul raised Eutychus.

Is thisnt this Biblical errancy?

Resurrection of any kind is a myth.

No, because the events were different. Those other people were simply revived. . . restored to the same sort of life they had before they died and still subject to death at some point in the future. Nothing had really changed. It was just an extreme form of healing. Resurrection is an altogether different thing. Jesus rose from the dead into glory and into eternal life- being never subject to death ever again, and having done this by His own power, not through someone else's. That was the first event of its kind in the entire history of the universe.

It is not the fact that other people were resurrected before Christ. It was the fact that Christ died for the sins of the world and provided a way of salvation to all who call upon his name. Christ's resurrection did several things, but one was reassurred his believers that he and his message was real. What Paul is asserting here is that if Christ's resurrection was real, then the resurrection of the body of believers will be real as well. It is the promise of an everlasting heaven.

There is a difference between bodily death and spiritual death. Lazarus and others brought back from death through miracles attributed to God were just brought back from bodily death for their spirits are definately alive. These miracles all served the purpose of forshadowing the one ressurrection of Jesus that would put an end to death--in a spiritual sense. Jesus died for our sins so that we sinful people can reach heaven and eternal life.

Hi What you are thinking is right in a way but all of those people you sighted eventually died again. Christ is the only one who was raised in a spiritual body that does not die. rdde34me 1COR 15:34-58

These are some great insights.

There is, however a big difference between bringing a person back to life where they are restored to their ordinary mortal body which will one day die (again) and being resurrected which means being restored to your body, only it's glorified, can't get sick, and immortal (it will never die again).

No one experienced resurrection before Jesus Christ, and His atonement conquering physical death (for good) really is a big deal, and something to celebrate.

Best wishes

I see your point. I think ressurection is so important because this is what is supposed to happen to everyone on the day of jusdgement. Some christians would like to believe that they will go straight to heaven when they die, but this is simply not the case as said in the Bible. You must be ressurected to ascend to heaven. Those who are not judged worthy will remain in the dirt, cease to exist. Not that I believe in all that stuff, but that's what it says.

Apparently you have done your homework. Not only did He arise from the dead but He was born of a virgin. Believe you me at that time in history loose morals was not found. Everyone bases the Bible on today's standards in America. This was not the case at all.

Because Christ was slain for our sins and the resurrection was the proof of God's forgiveness towards everyone through Christ.

God is the author of life. The difference is that Jesus died for your sins and paid the price so you could be free.
