yep it's a computerized key and depending upon the dealer is usually the tow fee, the key (from $25-$50/piece) and the labor to program (from $30-$100) ... And most locksmits don't have the machine to access the engine computer/Pats module to accept the key

bite the bulliet and buy 2 keys.. tow and the program costs are the same (or at least in my area they are..espcially if you loose a key.. they normally can erase all the others that started the truck before) but no problems if you loose a key

and it's correct that the Ford dealer will only cut to the orignal code , but most don't change the key cylinder so I don't think you'l have a problem

Ford does make a yellow fleet key for that vehicle that way if you loose one all it cost is the key price with no programming fees afterwards.. but most dealers don't know about them

It depends on if the original key had a transponder chip or not. Either way, a good automotive locksmith can make a new one. The cost will depend on if its a transponder key or not. If it has a transponder, costs are considerably higher because the key itself is much more expensive, plus the locksmith must program the trucks' computer to accept the new key.

The dealer CAN make you a key, however it will be the key that originally fit the truck. If the locks have ever been changed, the original key may not be the same.

Well, if i'm not mistaken these keys have the chip in them. Which means you HAVE to go back to the dealer and order a new one for about $100. If the key does not have a chip then you still have to go back to the dealer to have the key ID looked up. Sorry to say it but your mistake, thus your paying for it.

Key is around $24, and it costs $25 to re-program it, at least where I live.

JUST REPLACE THE IGINITION SWITCH (THE PART THE KEY GOES IN), YOU CAN GET THIS FROM AUTOZONE OR ANOTHER PART STORE, WHICH NORMALLY COST LESS THAN $25 AND HAVE IT INSTALLED, WHICH WILL PROBABLY COST LESS THAN $40. AND THE NEW IGINITION SWITCH WILL INCLUDE TWO KEYS. THIS IS SIMPLE SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM WHERE YOU WILL BE OUT OF NO MORE THAN $65 OR MAYBE EVEN LESS.
