It is just a few drops to the skin, and costs about $12-14..
You can get it at your vets...call around, as it is a new product, and not all vets have it yest.
I wonder where it has been all my life! It is awesome.

Before you do anything, take a trip to the vet. If the dog is itching too much, he or she may need a shot to help suppress the itch. One of my dogs is especially susceptible to fleas and requires the injection when the fleas get overwhelming. After this, follow the regimen that the vet suggests, usually Advantage or Frontline. We use Advantage with good results.
Some people suggest using garlic and this helps with the fleas, However garlic and onions are blood thinners too and too much isn't good for dogs. Check with your vet. My dogs get about one clove of garlic per week, sauteed usually in a scrambled egg.
Fresh bay leaves and eucalyptus may help also, especially around dog bedding, as long as the dog doesn't mind. A good flea bath will also help, but please pay attention to the directions if using a flea dip in conjunction with Frontline or Advantage applications.
One thing I have not tried which I just found is the following: Add a few drops of Dawn dish washing liquid to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Goodbye fleas.
Lastly, consider that various parts of your home may have fleas. If you have fleas in your carpet or furniture, you may require a flea bomb, available in most stores. When you do this, make sure that all food stuffs are covered and that you take all the animals out for about 4 hours. Don't forget to cover the fish tank!

Like most are recommending - Frontline, Advantage or similar product applied directly on your pet. But you should also bathe your pet first in a flea shampoo (wait two days after bath to apply flea product) and treat your home and pet bedding. Be sure your pet doesn't have a skin irritation due to the itching before bathing, you may have to see a vet first.
To treat the home, I use Fleabusters which is a powder that basically dehydrates the fleas/eggs (purchase it on-line). It is applied directly on your carpet and is not harmful to the pet once it is administered.
You should also treat your yard where the pet spends most of its time. And be careful of tapeworm...pets get it from fleas!

First give your dog a good bath in flea killing dog shampoo. Next you will need to flea bomb your house. You can get these in the pet dept of Walmart, or a pet store. I recommend getting the Frontline brand of drops for your dog, make sure you get the kind that says plus because it kills the eggs too. You can buy them cheaper on the internet than from a vet and you don't need a prescription. I use www.petmedsexpress.com You will want to treat your yard for fleas because that is where they came from to begin with. Fleas are really hard to get rid of, you have to keep on top of it!.

Capstar works great and it works very fast. It's best used with advantage or frontline. If your dog lives inside then you need to treat furniture, bedding, and carpet. For that I like Knockout. You can get it from your vet and it prevents re-infestation for 7 months. If you have a small dog that you bathe frequently and want to try a more homeopathic approach to killing fleas, try using dawn dish soap instead of a dog shampoo. It breaks down the flea's waxy coating that makes them so hard to kill and they drown during the bath.

Bathe with a dog shampoo containing Pyrethrin and repeat every week. This kills the adults and prevents reinfestation for 7 days. Make sure you vacuum, sweep, and mop. Then use the drops like Front-line or Advantage and repeat monthly. These prevent eggs from hatching. They sell some at Wal-Mart (Hartz) if you don't want to go to the vet. You can also dust your yard with sulfur. It kills fleas, ticks and chiggers, but don't use it on the dog. These products work best if you follow all directions and weight requirements EXACTLY.

Frontline or Advantage work really well, but for a cheap temporary fix, you can get Suave or White Rain Citrus shampoo and bathe the dogs in it, let it sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing and it will kill the fleas but it won't keep them off. Any citrus shampoo will kill fleas, Dawn dishsoap will too, but to keep them off the best bet is something from the vet's office.

Frontline for dogs. Advantage on cats. Kills them almost instantly. Also kills them in there bed area and kills any others that might jump on.
It is supposed to last a month but if you have a bad infestation you might need to treat them within 3 weeks the first time.
Works. My animals 3 dogs and two cats flea free all summer.

Advantage or Frontline. Avoid collars because they do NOT work and they can be toxic. Powder is crap too. You can use a good brand spray, like Adams, but you will still have a problem in the house.
Then watch for tapeworms...they are the result of having fleas!!!

i haven't used flea shampoo to do away with fleas. My vet recommends benefit flea drugs. you may get it on the vet or a puppy save. won't be the main inexpensive even though it works fairly immediately. My cat had fleas, we placed benefit on its neck and with the aid of the following day, we actually did no longer see any fleas, possibly in basic terms somewhat flea airborne dirt and dirt. did no longer get bit up anymore the two. there is products in puppy shops on your carpet&upholstery. yet whilst used you would be able to desire to circulate away the section for an hour it says (Zodiac variety, although I wait 2 hrs-one million hr isn't long sufficient. i've got completed it that way earlier). this is risky to human beings & pets. verify you examine the guidelines thouroughly earlier utilising.
