In the interest of creating a database of questions and answers I asked atheists and agnostics what their purpose is in life with this question here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuF9apqpOGoC6zZSSfz_PQvsy6IX?qid=20060807094526AAidt8N
Despite the one or two theists who wanted to tell me I need God, there are over 25 really solid good answers from people.
Some say they have no purpose but life to try and make others they love happy; many said their purpose was to help humanity and its knowledge base.
So my question for theists is, now that you have read the atheists and agnostics answers, do you have a better understanding for the atheists and agnostics purpose in life?
My intent here is not to start a God war, and read a bunch of answers telling me I and other atheists and agnostics need to have God or we have a purpose in life, because I just illustrated that many atheists and agnostics do.

I applaud you for doing this, but Jim, my dear, what do you expect? I've only seen one or two theists who actually have the ability to understand where atheists and agnostics are coming from(look one post down. Don't know who she is, but she's awesome :).
Your first 3 answers should be proof enough: either they don't take you seriously at all, or the only answer they can come up with is the standard "you need Jesus" line. And of course, one can't forget the logical fallacy goodness that is "90 percent of people believe in god, so it has to be true!!"

Well, even though I am not sure that you really ever want an honest this is my side view from a Christian, I am going to answer anyway.
I do believe that many people - lost, atheist, agnostic, whatever term applies...
have wonderful lives. They are doctors, motivational speakers, working class, teachers, humanitarians...
God, to me is my purpose. I have to have something bigger than me. Not an earthly thing, but my God. I wish that all would have that, but I know that will never happen.
Can people do great things without God. Probably every day. Is it full filling without God? not to me...
And for the 90% of us. I think many sit on a pew and let life pass them by, not taking a chance on faith, on mankind.
I want to be one of the ones that make a difference somewhere in someones life. I just want to do it through Christ.

It's good to know that there are so many respectful atheists and agnostics in the world. I think the biggest problem with religion. belief, etc. is that many people just start attacking each other, when I really do believe that most people want just the opposite, to help others and to live a respectable life and to pass those values onto their children. Thanks much for your thoughtful questions, equal thanks for your silly ones because humor is important in life, and God bless even though it's not what you believe :)

Yes. But the truth is the Truth whether you choose to create a database of amillion atheists saying they have a purpose in life the truth will remain.
Whether you belive it whether you don't it is still the truth and the day that Jesus christ shall descend, is the day that you will reckon.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL

I was amused by a previous response that said 90% of people believe in religion.. implying that that's enough to prove it's true.
I guess that person didn't consider that at one time the majority of people:
-believed the earth was flat
-thought the atom was the smallest possible piece of matter.
-believed in spontaneous generation
-should I go on?

No. I think you ppl take yourself too seriously since you don't accept fact that abt 90% of mankind believe in God. We are not strange, you ppl are.

You forgot to mention the ones who honestly said that they had no purpose at all, and were very content that it should be so.
I find that very sad.......
