Well, a boy dog doesn't lift his leg beacuse he is a boy, he will lift a leg beacuse he is a dominate dog and he is showing other dogs when they smell his pee that a VERY domiant dog was here and that you see him, not mess aound with him. The leg has a gland that produces a smell when they pee, and as a matter of fact, a female dog will lift a lieg if she is dominate.

hope that helps!!!!!!!!

I have two neutered male dogs, and they only lift their legs sometimes. If they *really* have to go, they just squat and let 'er rip. It's only when we're out for walks that they feel the need to lift a leg and sprinkle their special smell all over everything.

There's nothing real or not real about leg-lifting. Some dogs squat, some lift a leg, some do both. As long as he's housebroken and peeing where he should, who cares?

I have a German Shepherd and he didn't start lifting his leg until he was about 13 months old. I thought he was always going to squat because not all male dogs lift their legs. He will when he is ready but if he doesn't it's not that big of deal.

Both of my male beagles squat. One is 9 and the other 6 months. The vets says some dogs just don't lift their leg. Oh well.

Some dogs never do. Be grateful, if he is not lifting his leg he is probably not going to be marking in the house either. I hate it when males see the need to pee on everything in sight. Leg lifting does not make him a 'real dog'.

I'll take a squater over a marking leg lifter anyday!

I have a 6 year old bassest hound that still squats. But, with legs that short what would be the point. Yeah, I think its normal.

It is Normal...also it is learned thing. If you want him to do it, start taking him to a dog park and he will pick it up eventually. Besides, the dog park works to socialize and exercise the dog as well...

Most male dogs don't lift their leg unless they are around another male dog that does lift his leg.
