Everyone always complains about the public schools, fine i'll give you that much, it is not the best education system. Why blame it when all these kids can't read, write or speak english correctly. Did you know that if you read enough, your grammar will improve. Maybe some kids just don't wanna take the time to learn. Why is it always the schools fault if you're kid is a retard? Shouldn't it also be the parents fault for not helping them by having them read or even helping them continue their education at home, or are they too lazy and stupid to do this? Sure let's point at the illegals because my kid is a dumb ***, that seems to be everyones answer. How about you take a greater role in your childs education and stop complaining, unless you have been afflicted with the dumb gene too.

Maybe if you Mexicans wouldn't have 20 kids each, there wouldn't be such a distraction and our kids could get a better education but you don't have the common sense to use any birth control. MORON Were you infected with the dumb gene? Looks like

Because this is the United States. In the modern day nothing is the fault of the individual or family. It is all the fault of some institution. If you don't have a job it is not your fault it is the governments. If your kids are bad it isn't your fault it is the TV, video games, or school.

As for our education system problems a lot of that comes from all the anti discriminations cases. Laneing is discrimination so all ability level kids have to take the same classes at the same speed until they are in Jr. high or high school. this causes the smart ones to be bored and become behavior problems. While the slower ones fall behind and are passed for "social reasons" so they are not the old kid that does not fit in. Even the slow kids could keep up though if the parents worked with them some at home. It fells better to say it is some vague organizations fault then it is my fault.

I do think our schools need some work. I do not blame them for the kids who can't read or the kids who are messed up though. I blame the parents for that.

There are 2 changes I would like to see in our schools though.

1 teach a least a year of personal finance. Most kids who graduate high school can't balance a check book, make a budget, or have any clue how much they need to put away for retirement. This is something most parents cannot teach their kids because they do not know this.

2 have different levels of classes starting at 1st grade. We lose out on a lot of ability due to smart kids not being stimulated or challenged. This keeps their ability from developing fully. It would be good for everyone if they could be taught at around their ability level instead of that of the dumbest kid.

lets say kids are lazy, have short attention spans, have special needs, have parents that don't help educate them or they are just dumb... So what your just going to have an educational system that only taught the smart and normal kids?

I think the educational system and the teachers need to find a way to get through to ALL kids and to educate them no matter what level of intelligence they have. Its our duty as a nation to provide quality education and to help all children/teens no matter what their problems may be. If we can get all kids to be smarter, we'd have a nation with less problems... better tradesman to keep jobs here, less ignorant voters, more creative, more inventive, better scientists, maybe even have more common sense which would improve things like how people drive or what they do about the environment.

I agree, parents should be a contributing factor in their child's education... but if they are not doing their part, then I think society should help where they can.

Public schools were set up to give all children in the US a comparable education, and so that the state could actually have a say in what was taught and how it was taught. When it was set up, it was well known that parents would also teach their children what they wanted them to know, and it worked for quite a long time. Now, though, parents don't even try to teach their children anything. There is even a legal term "in loco parentiis" which means in the place of parents. The school can even remove a child from his parents if the parent try to go against the decisions of the school system, for instance not giving their children ritalin when school psychologists demand it. Unfortunately, the time for parents to become involved is long past. The state has completely taken over children's education and parents no longer have a say

First. You can tell when an adult answers this question and when a kid answers it (ie teachers make school boaring cause they aren't good)

Second The blame is on the parents for letting there kids play video games, watch tv, go an play BEFORE there homework is done. They also don't check and see what is going on in school.

If the parents get involved with there kids lives and take away the cell phones, video games, and spend more time as a family and then maybe kids today will learn something and not be disrespectful.

If I did half the things that kids today are doing I would get my butt whooped.

It's a good argueement. I have a friend who is a teacher and she gets pissed that the parents say they're not doing enough to teach their children, but at the same time the parents get pissed that the kids have to much homework and we don't have time to sit with them after work and dinner to help them. I do think the parents need to take some responsibilty for their childrens education as well.

I have a few friends that once their kids get out for the summer they continue their education through summer break, by making them study things they've done in the past year. I think more parents need to be proactive in this manner. The schools can't do it all it's our job to reinforce what the schools have done.

It is the public school's fault. Parent's these days are very busy , it takes two incomes to make ends meet , also there are a lot of single and divorced parents out there. They don't have time to read little Johnny a bedtime story.

Children don't care about education , c'mon let's be realistic. When you were in school did you honestly even listen to the teacher, NO you were busy talking and hanging with you friends.

Its not even the teachers so much , there are a lot of excellent teachers out there. The teachers unfortunately lack funding, and have to buy supplies out of their own pockets.

The problem lies with the school boards , and the curriculum.
These busy parents are PAYING into the schools with their tax money. Schools are PAID to teach children. The Big Wig school board Executives are pocketing this money. There was one in my hometown who got busted for taking trips to Maui on the taxpayer's dime.

The curriculum , is unimaginative . Its needs to be more relate-able to the children , more games , competitive things. Things that are more fun and more creative than just reading a book and answering questions 1-20. They need to teach practical application , how can I take what I am learning and apply it to MY life. Also they need to teach things that are more practical , like how to change a tire and how to fix a broken pipe . Survival skills for the REAL world.

What does this have to do with immigration? Anyways, true, parents do need to be more involved in their kids academics, but public schools do seem to care more about funding for this and that than helping the children get educated. I think one problem is the simple fact the the government runs the education system. The government started public education in I think 1950 and before that, the average American child's I.Q. ranked number one in the world. Now after we have used the governments education system for more than 50 years, the U.S. ranks like 21 or 22 in the world. That tells me right there that something is wrong.

It is the fault of the school system as well as the parents' fault. Parents rely on the schools and schools rely on the parents...a lose-lose situation. Neither demand enough or perhaps care enough to make kids sit up and become good adults. A biology class in Pennsylvania where I visited as a 'resource person' is a good example...two boys...either drunk or perhaps high were in the back of the class...I commented on it to the teacher...a personal friend and she told me that teaching was like just baby sitting....this is high school???? I know..corporal punishment was nixed...but where does reason begin with lazy, idle kids with two working parents get any education or even have role models...from parents that don't care or teachers earning a paycheck? Sorry it is not good enough....the responsibility for education belongs with both parents and the teachers. America is losing in many ways...we outsource because workers don't really care...We use illegals because we have 'standards' and demand supreme payemnt for our labor....CRAP....I no longer live in America as I find it to be too superficial...we can't accept the reality that we need to get down and do things. I worked hard for my education and I have two doctorate degrees and have written several books....so I am used to busting my butt to do things, but with the shallowness of many people, both blacks and whites, they expect a life of luxury at little personal effort.

It's not the schools fault. It is the fault of the parents, but one of the key characteristics of this country is the inability to take responsibilioty for ones actions. In this case ones inaction. it is always easier to place the blame on someone else, than to accept it for yourself. It is the same with parents blaming violence on video games and music. If a child is not learning to read, it is either because of a disability or the laziness of parents. Parents who do not want to take the time that is necessary to help their children. The sad fact is that people will continue to blame schools and anybody else that is around and a good scapegoat. Every time a parent chooses to blame a school for their childs inability to learn it is only then teaching the child that it is okay to place blame on others and never accept responsibility for yourself, which in turn will continue to make this country what it is today. Its only going to get worse, more widespread, and more pathetic.

It is the teacher's fault. From my personal experience in the public schooling system the teachers spend most of the time explaining their power. They are always right and the students are always wrong.

Plus the teachers have to dumb everything down for the "stupid" kids based on the No Child Left Behind act.
