I have been asked to be a surrogate for a gay couple, whom I love very much. Although I am honored this is a very hard decision for me to make! Is there anyone here who has done this before? Any opinions?

I actually work with 2 women who have been surrogates. One just delivered last Monday. She was a little emotionally detached but not at all ashamed. She works for the woman (personal assistant) for whom she had the baby, well, it was the baby's Grandmother she worked for. She has children of her own. The other lady said that it was one of the best things she'd ever done but also that it was the straw that broke the camel's back in her marriage. (and that was TWINS!!) She has two daughters of her own and she loves them fiercely. Both women have very giving spirits. You have to be able to really detach. You just said that it is a hard decision, so I foresee difficulties! I know I couldn't do it, especially if I DIDN'T have babies of my very own.

If you feel you can handle it, the pregnancy, the emotional attachment to the baby and then giving it up then go for it. I have 2 beautiful daughters and I've always said I should have been a surrogate. I don't want any more children, but I love being pregnant. I had easy pregnancies and there are so many people out there who want children and can't have them! I'm sure there is a social stigma somewhere against surrogates but I think it's a great thing. Good luck in your decision, you have a right to feel honored!

Pray. I think you are trying to do a good thing but it may back fire. Just be careful that you don't jump in to fast. Also how do you feel a child being rasied in those conditions. God made it a reason to have a man and women necessary for a child to be conceived. Do you feel alright letting a child grow up with two of the same sex parents?
I am not trying to be mean. I have gay friends. They are great people. They just live a life I am not sure of. I just really worry about the world in another 20 years what will it be like? Good Luck with your desicion.

I have not, however I was considering doing it for a family member. It was the easiest decision I ever made! unfortunately my cousin was unable to salvage any of her eggs before her ovaries were extracted. We re-considered afterwards and decided it was better for them to adopt since was not gonna have a genetic tie to the baby, he shouldn't either. We figured it may complicate things later and we just didn't want that to ever be an issue.

It is really hard to give up a being that has lived inside you and has been nurtured by you for 9 months. You form a very strong bond with this little person. I would think long and hard about your decision

If you are very close to this couple then i would think more positve about this. It's not like they'd keep you away after you had their baby but i wouldn't use your own egg you would have to use someone eles' egg deffinately. That'd be giving up your own baby...not good.

Never have done it. But, I don't believe that gay people should have kids at all. It would screw them up. They won't know what a normal healthy relationship is between a man and a woman is. They will only see the lifestyle choice of two same sex people who are sinning against God. Please don't do this to a child that came out of your body. Their lifestyle choice is wrong. If they want to have a child they need to make a healthy lifestyle change and marry a person of the opposite sex.
