The oldest faith is probably Hinduism but how are we to name the holiest?

Don't all the religions CLAIM to be the Holiest? And as far as is known Hinduism is the oldest. I find every religion to have at least a few redeeming qualities and I find that NO religion has ALL the answers. I have studied them all. I have reached the point in which I believe there is some sort of Divine force in the Universe and that COMPASSION and enlightenment are the two things I will 'religiously' pursue.

None of those three is the oldest. We don't even know the first religion. It probably happened the first time someone looked up at the sky and wondered what all those glowing things of varying sizes were up there, or the first time a flood killed some people and they all wondered why it happened.

As far as holiest? Holy is in the eye of the beholder. Islamic mosques aren't holy to Christians, Hindus don't worship at a Christian church, Muslims aren't about to venerate a cow. There's no quantitative way to measure holiness.

'Holiest' is a loaded term - my thought would be any religion that didn't make god into an ego god and, instead, provided a context/path for people to get a direct experience of god; all have it but zen buddhism and others specifically cultivate it. For oldest religion -- it's generally considered to be Hinduism. Specifically, Dravidianism is older and is the root of Hinduism. One site claims AUSTRALIA's Aborigines w/ their 'Rainbow Serpent' paintings -- 6000 BCE (see second source) -- represents the oldest. I assume this means we need to define religon better (is the stuff from primitive man -- the rock paintings -- considered in this?). Here's a timeline (in order of oldest):
1. Dravidianism - 6000 - 3000 BCE (roots of Hinduism)
2. Hinduism - their Vedas were written ~ 1500 BCE
3. Zoroastrianism - oldest prophetic religion - either 600 BCE or 1400 BCE
4. Judaism - Torah written in 1400 BCE
5. Jainism - 800 BCE
6. Buddhism - 483 BCE
7. Christianity - 30 CE
8. Islam - 610 CE

I don't know about the oldest and holiest. But of your selections, Hinduism is the oldest. But hinduism is not even a religion.Hinduism was a label given to them by the British conquests. That was simply thier culture. With different ways of looking at things.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Though the originel man followed indigenous beliefs. Before there were such things as religions.Just to respect all things that exist.Even when they would hew down a tree, they would give a prayer for a tree. And Thank THE GOD for the life of a tree. And when they would kill an animal(purely for cosumption otherwise it would be as if they are cursing themselves), they would bless its spirit with a proper prayer just for the respect of life. They will even comune with the animal in the hereafter and tell them they have put up a valient effort(never in mockery, but great respect). They would move with the simple changing of the moon, a breeze in the air, the falling of a leaf from a tree, to getting messages from GOD by writing in the sand and watching how it ends up speaking. And this is no form of witchcraft because they respected ALL.Things like this still exist, but they will label you as being bipolar or something in that range in the medical field. You can have some of the truest people that the times of now could have produced locked up in some insane asylum.Getting dummy pills thrown down thier throat to make a man or woman who is and knows the TRUTH look crazy. Now, who is REALLY the devil? While people ask who is GOD all of the time.

Hinduism is far older than both Christianity and Islam. And yes we can consider Hinduism as a holy religion, since the majority of all Hindus (and they are many!!) do take their religion seriously.
Hinduism shape its beliefs and rituals from holy books (the Vedanta, Mahabaratha to give an example) who's looked upon as revelations and true just the very same way christians look upon the Bible as inspired scripture.

There are older religions. The first religions worshipped the Mother Earth Goddess, thousands of years before your choices. There are still people that follow that path. Other religions are older as well. Check out the beliefs the ancient Egyptians for example.

Hinduism began about 1500 BCE.
Christianity started in the 1st century CE.
Islam began about the 7th century.

Since man started socializing, some 60,000 years ago, there have most likely been religious beliefs. In all religions, these grew from the need of thinking humans to rationalize the otherwise inexplicable.

Pagan or earth religions and the religious beliefs of African tribes, are most likely the longest-lived, since all modern men actually spring from a tribe that came out of East Africa in 58,000BC. Over the next 20,000 years, that one tribe spread out and populated all of Europe and Asia, and eventually the rest of the world, taking with them their religious beliefs. These beliefs shifted depending on the conditions the humans found in these different regions of earth, eventually giving rise to different traditions.

Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Christianity are all relatively new religions.

the oldest real religion is Judaism founded on Abraham and his sons in the Old Testament. The Old Testament is a prefiguration of what is the come in the New Testament when Christ is born. To answer you question it is the Catholic religion which is the oldest among the Christians and the oldest all together next to the Jewish religion. Look at the history of Islam. Islam has not known unbloodied borders. Jesus came in the likeness of man to show man not to sin. Allah thinks of himself to mighty to become man I would rather follow a man who is God. Then a so called God who thinks of himself to good, this sounds like something Lucifer would say before he was cast into hell.

Hindu and buddism are much older than christianity or islam (you did not mention judasm which ios not only older but is the father religion of islam and christianity). Fopr this reason christinas and muslims do not refer to budduism or hindu as a true religion.
There are many religions such as mayan, some american indians, and some other asians which ar emuch olde rthan either muslim hindu, buddism, christian, judasm ect.
Judasm has the distinction of being the first religion to support theidea of one single god. All religions need only to declare their religon to be holy to make it so legally. but no one can defend that statement as fact.
