Sticky situation there! Sounds like she is a wicked stepmother. I don't know that there is anything you can do. Unless you have a good relationship with his father. If that is the case you can sit down with him and talk to him about it. It could be that he isn't seeing the whole situation. You will want to approach the topic delicately though. Nonaggresive and nonaccusing manner. Tell him that you are worried. Hopefully, he would be receptive and it would cause him to step back and be a little more cautious before jumping on her side.

That poor kid. He is lucky to have a cousin like you. Can your parents help at all? The stepmother sounds as if she resents him being there. Does his dad realize what is happening? Maybe someone should tell him (maybe your parents?).

Just be there for him honey and let him know that you realize how hard it is for him. Is his real mom in the picture at all?

talk to him privately and in confidence. The encourage him to talk to his dad about how he feels. If dad doesn't listen maybe he needs to talk to a social worker.

Perhaps your family could offer him a home.

call child protective services, see what they think. otherwise, try to support him and be a good friend, it may not help the situation, but it may help him.
