Be aware that the guy who came up with this bastardization of the Saint Bernard (and also the Pug x Beagle mix, or "Puggle") is nothing more than a Wisconsin puppy mill. This means that the dogs in his kennel exist for no other reason than to breed and make money for him. They are not socialized, are not treated as pets and companions, and are simply bred on every heat cycle until they're no longer useful.
More than likely, his breeding dogs come from poor quality sources (because no responsible breeder of quality dogs would sell to a puppy mill), which means that they have no genetic testing in their pedigrees, and could produce any number of health problems.
This is not the kind of "breeder" that you want to support. He is a mass producer of poor quality, "fad" dogs, and his only motivator is money -- read the CBS article on him...he says it right there. The dogs are "cute, and people will buy them". He could be selling sunglasses, stuffed toys, or any other "product", as much as he cares.
To the responsible, ethical breeder who values the health and well-being of their dogs and the breeds they love, this type of person is the scum of the earth. That is why purebred clubs may have a problem with him, or people just like him (of whom there are too many).

Designer dogs are dogs that are mixed on purpose such as a maltese with a poodle becomes a malt-a-poo etc. so I know for a fact that there is no such thing as a thoroughbred miniature Saint Bernard, but it could be the name of a designer breed but I am not sure exactly what that mixture would be...you might try looking on www.puppyfind.com. My mom and dad are breeders and deal almost solely in designer breeds now and they advertise on this site and you can any type of dog you could ever think of designer or thoroughbred on this site. Good Luck on your search.

No. The show was misinformed. If anyone advertises such, that would mean they took two small, sickly, unhealthy dogs and bred them in the hopes of producing small, sickly puppies that they could make a fortune with, despite a lifetime of misery for the dogs and enormous emotional and financial toll on the purchasers. Since the parents are simply unhealthy dogs, there is no guarantee whatsoever that their puppies will be small. I saw a "miniature aussie" at a dog park that was 5 months old and already nearly the size of a healthy full-grown male aussie that was also there. The "miniature" dog was going to be much larger than most of the adult aussies out there!

It was on a segment of the CBS show "Sunday Morning" which was on this past, well, Sunday and narrated by Bill Geist. There is a guy in Wisconson who is breeding miniature St. Bernard's, as well as other specialty combinations. The American Kennel Club doesn't like it. Try going to the CBS News website and look for the "Sunday Morning" page. They may have more info on that report there.

I saw something about that on TV last night but didn't see the whole segment. They were also talking about puggles(poodle/pug) Bet they're cute. Don't know what they breed the Saint Bernard with to get the miniature.

They are always trying to down size the breeds. But to AKC and I'm sure the Saint Bernard club of america would also not like that idea eather.

"Designer" dogs are a fancy name for "mutts", and there are mutts available at the pound or through http://www.petfinder.com .
There is no such "breed" as a "miniature Saint Bernard", despite what people making these mutts try to tell you.

A man in Wisconsin who is credited with developing the breed called puggle has also developed a mini saint bernard. I don't know his name or how to get hold of him. If you're that interested, you might google "puggle" and see what you get.

I haven't heard of it either. I know the Bernese Mountain Dog is a "smaller" version of the St. Bernard, but they are still BIG dogs.
