When a guy says something really stupid a friend will say "Are you fu.king retarded"? Do you think I guy ever says that twice to his wife?

They are not liars they are just telling the truth. Not all men are the same, some really do mean what they say.

Some really mean that. My boyfriend is definitely my best friend and I'm his - we were friends for two years first, and now have an unbelievably close bond.
I think some people might say that and not mean it to make their girlfriend/wife feel good, or make their relationship look wonderful.

Simple .. men lie because women make us. Women want to hear certain things, not always the truth. How do I know? Lets review. W:Do you love my mother? M: No result: pissed off woman. W:: Am I fat? M: Yes result: pissed off woman. W: Do you think I should buy these shoes? M: I dont care result: woman pissed off. Do you see the trend.
Ladies if you want a man to be honest with you, you have to be ready hear something you dont like. If you get pissed then we wont tell you the truth the next time. Only what we think you want to hear.

Maybe they aren't lying. Once you've been in a relationship as close as a marriage, you know everything about the other person. Even if the marriage itself didn't work out, you still know the other person (and they know you) better than anybody else does. Sometimes you still need that comfort, even if the romantic relationship is over.

Sometimes that is the case. My husband and I are best friends. He doesn't have friends he can trust like he can trust me. So not everyone is a liar.

because that is what they have to say... half of the time the women are usually standing right there next to them so they say that and yeah they dont get kicked in the nuts afterwards. but really though. i think they say that just cause when you are with a man i mean you really have to know him better than he knows himself. that's how we save them from themselves. they are into excess. and when a woman knows better then they will use it for the good of the relationship and there own.

because it sounds better than saying the dude he drinks beer with every day is his best friend...that would be a bad reflection on him...it just makes him look good to say the w/gf is best friend

This may not be the case for you. It doesn't mean it's not the case for other people/guys. Is it really so hard to believe that someone's spouse/wife/girlfrend/partner in life is also their bestfriend? Who better to fill those shoes???

not all are . my wife is my best friend, simply because i can talk to her about anything w/o her being judgmental. and there is noone else on earth that i would rather spend my time with.
