I know many many Atheists who respect humankind, so I don't the see the point in "demonizing" them. Most of Atheists aren't amoral persons - not at all.

Who is demonizing them?...and don't say "all Christians."

First the question - I agree that people do demonize atheists at times, and get particularly upset when people assert that Atheists must be amoral, or that without religion/god there would be no morals.

The truth is that non-believers are in a privileged position of being able to judge right and wrong without being clouded by the ancient views espoused by some religious groups.

Further, there are moral questions that go beyond the usual church teachings. eg it is wrong to kill, but is it right to kill one person to save 20? Basically morality is extraordinarily complex, and I think many religious folk see things a bit too black and white. They seek certainty where there is none.

Kingsgirl. I am not an atheist, I am undecided about what caused us and the universe to exist. It is one thing to say that there 'might' be a god (that is what I say), but another to say there is a god, and then accept everything your religious leaders and texts tell you as gospel (deliberate).

You are right, it is hard to be so unsure of what life and death are all about, but thats how it is. We are all unsure.

Another thing. What are atheists or non-believers generally supposed to do? Should they pretend to believe?

The Atheists I know are some of the nicest and moral people I have ever met. The same goes for Agnostics, Pagans, Wiccans, and other people who come to terms with religion and beliefs on their own discovery after a lot of study and contemplation.

Speaking from observation, I see that many Christians need to demonize people outside of their belief system to make their religion seem more "true" or "correct." It makes a good "us versus them" argument. It also justifies prejudice, hate, and violence. It's easier to torment someone if s/he is cahoots with Satan than a fellow human being. To some Christians, everyone who is not in total agreement with them is an agent of Satan, even though Satan is a Christian character that people outside of Abrahamic faiths don't acknowledge. It's unfair for them to overlay their religious beliefs over others'.

Nobody in and of themselves have the power to demonize anybody. Demons have that power and it is more like an accident looking for a place to happen. If the atmosphere is in a state where the demon feels comfortable then it will posses the vessel. All dark angles are looking for a place to dwell and if you have no illuminated God setting at the desk of your hotel then these demons will check in. You are the doorkeeper and Jesus is at the desk, your body is the hotel. It is your choice and yours alone who comes in the lobby and it is God's choice who checks in. If the desk is empty then all spirits may check in at will. Remember they are all looking for a crack in the armor someplace. When they see it they flow to it like being in a vacuum. It is about not having on the full armor of God and obviously an atheist doesn't because they don,t care to believe in the concept even though it is reality.

I don't think that Atheists are demons or "demonized" exactly. I think that those of you that don't believe in a higher power leave your self open to being a pawn to something else. Something much more sinister. This has nothing to do with the person them self. This could happen to any person with the best of intentions.God works in mysterious ways, and the devil is just as crafty. He will use people as tool to do his work. I would rather be used in doing God's will then any other.

Some of us can see and walk.
Others can't.
The same thing happens with the things of the soul.
Some can see the truth, others just cannot.
GOD exists and deny HIS Existance is sinful
and wrong.

However, if we ask for the atheists to GOD, HE Will Surely
Say, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING TO ME
ABOUT". For HIM, everybody is equal.

Let us forgive those that are not able to see the truth and
if possible let them know of the Truth.
The difference between the Truth and the Lies, it is
the Truth is only one, but the Lies are so many.
"GOD EXISTS" is a TRUTH.

Let our souls find ONE'S CREATOR.

Let us forgive others and be better persons.
It isn't really important whether the others are
atheists, wiccans, masons, protestants, etc.

All are our brothers and we must love others
and glorify our FATHER that Loves us So
Much and Gives us so many, inclusively
without deserving it in many cases.

GOD BLESS US ALL.

I think it's because they support a freedom FROM religion when the religions folks prefer the constitutional stance freedom OF religion. Atheists pose a threat to religious folks when they sue to have things like the Ten Commandments or the Bible or even God removed from the public forum. I prefer that all religions and viewpoints be accepted.... it's called tolerance. When atheists eliminate all religion it's called oppression.

Being an Atheists does not make someone a bad person. Religion should not measure who you are weather you are Pagan, Jews, Hindu, ect. Good people come from all faiths or lack there of. Sadly there are just a lot of closed mined people out there...

The bile says that all Christians are liars and that those who are not Christian can not be heard.

These two lines pretty much allow them to demonize us. It is a way to spread their religion so that the pope can live the high life. It is a highly organized cult.

They will tell you otherwise

Well, unfortunately the Athiests feel the need to come into venues like this and demonize anyone who has an ounce of faith in something bigger than themselves. Also, it is Athiests who are wasting tons of government money trying to get things like "Under God" removed from the Pledge or "In God We Trust" removed from currency because they feel this FORCES them to become Christian. Last I heard, no one became Christian by looking at a penny or reciting the pledge.

why should atheists disrespect people who believe in God? i don't think anyone demonises them but i think atheists try to get other people to join them in making a mockery of or gaining disbelief in God. they are free to believe whatever they want just allow us to be free to believe what we want too without forcing their beliefs on us. God is one of the biggest ideals in the history of humankind so if an atheist disrespects God many people including myself would be offended and have a right to feel that way.
