It's probably least expensive way to lose weight and get in shape. For $50 you buy a pair of running shoes and you're off. Running and swimming are probably the best cardio workouts i know of.

running? not important. walking is good for you or swimming. running is only important if you're being chased by a mountain lion or the like.

Running isn't important, specifically . . . exercise is important though. If you choose to run to get your exercise, more power to you - personally, I hate running.

especially for the cardio it'll give you. It also work pretty much all the muscles of your body. Combine together, running make you healthier ( lower blood pressure, stronger heart, less risk of diabetes, heart problem, etc ) and in better shape.
