If the car came w/ daytime running lights you cannot turn them off. They should always be on when the vehicle is running. It is also illegal for them not to be on if it is factory equipment. This is something that even some law enforcement officers are unaware of. In Canada you must always have your lights on. How lame are they huh? Removing the fuse however could disable other needed systems on the vehicle. Best advice is to leave them alone.

Here's something that works on older Chev trucks. If you have a dome light override button, push it in and out twice. You'll hear a chime. The lights should be off.

on the newer cars if you pull the fuse it will not run some models you can unplug from under the hood in some states it will not pass inspection without them

not sure about the 97 model, but on some you could apply the emergency brake just slightly and it would disengage the day time running lamps.

you need to find the fuse and hope it doesn't turn anything else off.
