When I was a very little girl, about 5, I was offended by the secular aspects of Christmas for some reason. I didn't really like Christmas, but I thought St. Nicholas was for St. Nicholas Day and Jesus was for Christmas. Shortly after, when I could read better and think on a higher level, I figured out that St. Nick and Jesus were quite similar and that neither really mattered. (When I was ten, I was really interested in ancient Egypt, and I would read Exodus and note the errors or illogical parts.)
I think the churches try to get people while they're young and hope that they don't try to think too much as they get older. If it's something they grew up with and comfortable with, then they'll be less apt to leave. Familiarity comforts people. However, there are the Christians that started off with Christianity when they were little, did some pretty nasty things, then come back to Christianity when they're older and we have that born-again jazz.

I was raised in church and got saved when i was 6 but when i was 12 i back slid thinking that God didn't love me if he was real that's when my life went sour my grades started to slip i was getting sick all the time and just a year ago my uncle died i sat down and thought how good my life was before me doubting and asked God if this was a sign that it was only going to get worse. That night i had a horrible dream that my loved ones would one day be gone and i would never see them again because they chose the right way and i didn't. I woke up screaming and crying began him to forgive me. It has been 8 months since that and my life slowly has gotten better. I still have problems but what persons life doesn't. I am 16 now and i believe when I had that dream is when I truly believed in God.

I was 21, and I began to become curious about the Lord. I began to read the Gospel and a movie came in the mail called Jesus. I knew this was a sign from God. I gave my life to Him, and it was the best decision I ever made. He doesn't try to make you become a different person. He just wants a relationship with you. And along the way you begin to change, because of the love that you have. You no longer want to do the things you once did, because it leads to death and there is no joy in it. He is a good God, and He is a gentleman He won't force Himself upon you, He lets you decide. We could have had a God that makes you worship Him and makes you love Him, but we don't. We have a God that loves us unconditionally and gives us the choice to love Him in return. I am grateful that He opened my eyes to the truth.

I heard about God when I was a child wasn't raised in a christian home far from it. Went to a baptist church that preached hell fire and damnation but not once preached the love of God. I thought God was this mean ruler and all was going to hell. I can remember week after week being at the alter scared to death noone ever talked to me. I did my own thing for years tried all the world had to offer was miserable. I was 31 be4 I ever heard John 3:16 and knew without a doubt that I was loved and accepted just cause am me. At one point I had even hated and cursed God u didn't talk to me about God u think peeps here r rude I'm not proud of it but I'd hurt peeps. I hated Him that much. His grace amazes me cause all during the time I cursed Him He still loved me. Gods my life.

I've been in and out of the church since I was a toddler, but I have to say that for me it was when I was 16. I went to Jesus Northwest, which is a big prayer festival and concert that lasts all weekend, and I finally realized that there were real Christians out there, not just the 'elders of the church' and such. There were so many other people there just like me, and that weekend I really dedicated myself to Him for the first time, consciously speaking, knowing fully what I was doing. That's not to say that as a teenager I stumbled or that I'm anywhere near perfect, but that was a turning point in my walk with Christ, for sure. It was the real beginning for me.

As a child I was raised Christian. All my teenage life I turned away from God. I wanted to do my own thing, getting into trouble and all that. When I was about 20 I started thinking about my spirituality. I did a little research into different religions and ended up returning to Christianity. Just with a different understanding of it.
PS That you for forming your question in a polite way. Much appreciated.

I have always believed in God. I guess because I was taught that as a really small child and I just believed it blindly. I haven't always lived like a 'good christian' though. In fact, just the opposite for most of my life! I AM A BIG SINNER!, but I still believe in God.
