People say it is a real "disease". I disagree. I think it is a cover for children who are given too much sugar in their diets and then play video games or watch TV for hours on end. I could be wrong...but 20 years ago kids PLAYED, they didn't sit nearly so much. And they ate much more healthy foods. How many of us have seen a pre-teen walking around with a liter (or even two liter) jug of soda? This has to have a huge impact on the systems in the body.
What do you think? Do you know any kids (or yourself maybe) that have been diagonosed with ADD and who eat healthy (not much soda, frozen foods, candy, junk, etc) and who run around and play, watching no more than a few hours of tv a week?

Hi, i have ADHD, I think its a real disorder BUT i do not believe in drugging are children.....well I'm only 13 so i have no children but i really don't believe in the drugs, i no lots of people with it and don't want/believe in the drugs. I drink no pop and watch 3-5 hours of t.v. a week...although I'm the computer allot. I play 4 spots every year (volleyball, track, softball and competitive softball) and play out side allot. Kids with ADHD just should be in class rooms with less people....i had 35 kids in my class last year and one teacher....Kids with ADHD can and should be treated naturally. And the school system should get better and parents should let kids be kids and stop bringing there two year olds to the doctor, hoping that he/she will give the kid the pills. Its ridicules in in reality probley over 3/4 of the kids diagnosed proubmly don't have it. But then soom really do have it and the need to be treated NATURALLY.

in the UK we used to call it being hyper-active, but most people believed that the children that had "this" were more likely to have "under-active" parents.
My young son goes hyper if he drinks coke, but not if he has the diet version. This is something (too much sugar) that can over stimulate adults, never mind youngsters.
My friend's daughter who is now a teenager, as been diagnosed with adhd. her diet is good, she hardly ever watches tv, she's sporty and active. However, as she hasn't been diagnosed until mid teens, she's already developed anorexia through the "attention" deficit side. Counseling is going well though.

Actually, both my sons were ADD. They never had sugar until they went to school, and the school provided it!! At home they never got it from me as I do not use it.
It is a valid disease, it simply wasn't recognized many years ago. And I think that often it is misdiagnosed in the current milieu. It's far too easy to label a child ADD and sedate them into compliance with school rules etc. Any child suspected with ADD need a full battery of psychological and physiological tests run to veryify the diagnosis....teachers, counsellors and not medical professionals are NOT qualified to label a child with ADD.

No offence to any docters out there, but they are pretty much legalized drug pushers. They invent a disease and then create an expensive medicine for that disease, and then diagnose kids or even adults with that disease and let the money from the drugs roll in!

With the inhabitants being larger than till now, needless to say your going to make certain larger cases of the diesease. yet, there is likewise the subject that usa has been offered that each and every physique issues could be solved with a pill. There are very loads of youngsters who're given pills like ritlin for upload and HADD who rather dont want them.

It was always there they just hadn't given it a name yet. Same as cancer and many other diseases they didn't know much about. Alzheimer's for one example.
