My husband and I are traveling to a my BIL wedding in Germany. We are paying for all the travel expances ourselves as well as paying for are own room and car rental.

We were married in the states and paid for out of town guests to attend. He attensded alone and did not give us a wedding gift (??)

My BIL is not paying for anything and we are paying out all this. I am thinking a $100.00 (euro) and calling it even.

What do you think?

You cannot expect for your BIL to pay for your travel expenses as you did on your wedding.
paying for your out town guestst accomodations is a luxury that not everyone can afford, so don't expect him to.
However, is unexcusable that he didn't give you a wedding gift.

One hundred Euro is quite a large amount of money ($130 dollars). If you can afford that amount, go ahead, but you know that is just not fair.

I say, spend those 130 dollars travelling through beautiful Germany and and give them a still very generose $ 50 dollars and a card or buy something from home to take with you around that amount.

Good luck

I won't even give him that... how about a nice card or write him a poem and call it even. And remember you have UP to a year to send him a gift... so you can always see how you feel after the wedding and follow up with a gift. I honestly was in the same situation and I went to Lenox outlet center and bought them a nice crystal vase that cost me $40 and retails for $200 and gave them that. So I didn't waste my money and they thought they got a nice gift.

present enjoying cards are great presents. I have been given some when I have been given married and that i became into in simple terms as chuffed as though I had won an actual modern. Plus, this is alot much less stressful to get a modern card for somebody you do no longer understand o.k..

Hey nicer than me. If friends let me foot the bill and gave me no gift I would simply give a card without cash at theirs but you must be a bigger person. They had that question in dear Abby and she said a card.

With paying for EVERYTHING, leaving the country, I'd say nothing, but at weddings I never come empty handed. Write a check, small or not, and let that be that.

cash always works. how much depends on your budget, not what you think they might want. They should have thought about their wants when they were making plans for out of the country wedding, which left guest financially responsible.

as you are having to lay out cash out of pocket for travel, lodging, meals, etc, i think you would be very generous to give more than a touching card. i think they would have to be quite selfish to expect any more than a card from their guests.

but have a great trip and enjoy germany! it's beautiful and everyone is very friendly!

Regardless of the situation of the wedding, you gift want you WANT to gift, and that's that. It is completely unrelated to the travel expenses and such.

You may want to wait until you get there. Airport & customs have strict restrictions. You may lose your gift to airport security. Or you might want to check with your airport first.
