what's the difference bet. spanish(spain) and spanish(latin america)?

i'm want to get the rosetta stone software for my sister's gift and i was confused abt the choices...is there a difference and what do u think will be more useful?

Castellano, the spanish of Spain, uses the "vosotros" conjugation - which is a illustrious form of saying "You (and I)" - it's very formal, although it has been made informal in latin america.

I grew up in El Salvador, and our dialect used a very butchered version of "vosotros" - in fact, it was butchered enough that it was difficult for people in Spain to understand. The reason why? My family comes from spaniords, and we never mixed with the indians, so we kept inside the big walls pretending to be spaniords, even though time passed and we fell of the way.

Now, the rest of latin america uses the more informal "Tu" version - it literally means "you" and it is more widely accepted in the Americas than the Vos kind - and actually, in fact, I can only think of Spain and area using the vos.

Regardless, all business is done in the Usted, which both dialects use - its' a formal version of "you" and it does not change from either one.

In the states, I would suggest teaching her to use the Tu - because she will have more chances of using it, and if she learns to conjugate impersonals in VOS, and lives in the states, epople will look at her funny

The difference between Spanish Spain and Latin America is the difference between English-England and English United States. The latter are more bastardized versions of the classic language.

There are also some differences in usage and structure. If she lives in the U.S. and/or would most likely travel to Mexico, South America, or Central Americal, then get her the Latin American one. If she lives in Europe or it's likely that she would be traveling to Spain, then the one for Spain would help her most. If you're not sure, the one for Spain would probably serve her anywhere.

The difference is in the pronunciation of B and D, in Castillian it's a very soft sound almost like a v.
