I am just so tired of being overweight.

I spoke with my doctor and she informed me that it's quite safe and realistic to be able to lose 5 lbs a week or to aim for the equivalent of 20 lbs a month. You MUST include at least 30+ minutes of exercise and stay hydrated with 64+ oz. of water a day.

I'm tired of being fat as well. I'm also tired of talking about losing the weight and want to begin doing something about it.

Remember that the first 10 lbs you shed is mostly water weight and also the quickest to come off but don't let that intimidate you. Remember that the weight didn't come on overnight, so with time and effort it will come off. Take your weight loss plans and exercise on a day-to-day regiment to help you not pay so close attention to the scale on a regular basis.

I wish you luck!

It partly depends on how overweight you are. The more overwieght you are the easier to lose more lbs per week. As you get closer to a good body weight then 2lbs per week will be to much. It is key that you continue to eat properly and exercise to lose the weight.

Yes, the first few weeks or month of any diet or exercise program you can expect to lose more than 2lbs a week (less food going in, water, etc.). I lost 13lbs the first month on my diet. Also it's not good to go by "weeks", because sometimes weight sort of sits around one week before it's ready to get "flushed out" (drink lots of water), and it can be artificially high which gets you discouraged.
I find it best to weigh in once a month to not get too disappointed. Also, you will be getting feedback from your loose clothes.

ps "loose" means not tight.
it's an adjective
"lose" is a verb. sorry to be pedantic.

Depends on your lifestyle changes. If you really increased your exercising and watched your calories and are really overweight, you could lose 4-5 pounds a week but usually only for the first few weeks as your body adjusts to the new routine. Make sure not to starve your body though.

it is probably safe to loose atleast 3 -4 lbs in a week, but depending on how overweight you are and the circumstances its better to ask your doctor before starting any weight loss treatment. and from past experiences its better off to stay away from the otc remedies they don't work . you need to eat basically fruits and veggies and stay away from red meat, if you do eat meat say chicken, turkey, or fish make sure its not fried and you take the skin off boil it or bake it for best results. you can eat as much fruit and veggies as you like, and loose weight the natural way.

If you lose 5-6 lbs in the first week this is called "water weight". Its ok. after the first week you should stick to 2-3 lbs per week, although everybody's body is different, the loger you are losing weight the better chance you have of keeping it off

Only if you are obese, that rate is high for anyone who is average to slightly overweight.

If you lose more than 2lbs/week you are not losing fat, you are probably just losing water.
(Exceptions: If you starting weight is very high, and after childbirth)

Not really. I just talked to my doctor and he said average weight loss for people is 1 lb a week. You can lose 2 or more a week, but to do that for any sustained amount of time is very difficult and dangerous to your health. Go talk to your doctor, that's what you pay your insurance for.

" As a general guidline, a program should recommend a healthy weight loss of no more than 2 pounds per week. Avoid anything that promises you'll lose a drastic amount of weight in a short period of time."

2-5 is fine, i think. i've read 2.5 lbs. a week is ideal. and the slower you lose it, the longer you will keep those pounds off. eat between 1200-1500 cals a day, walk 30 mins a day, drink lots of water and eat fiber. i guarantee you will lose 10 lbs. in a month!!
