I've had my kitten for about a month. I recently had him neutered, and even that was about 2 weeks ago. I put the litter boxes in the same spot, (we have 2 kitties) there are 2 litter boxes. 3 days ago he peed on the rug 1 foot in front of the litter box.... I figure... accident. No biggie... So I wash the rug, put it back out there, and yesterday he pees on it again.... WHATS THE DEAL FOLKS?? So Im thinking... remove the rug entirely... Obviously for some reason my cat doesnt like that rug there. He hasnt peed anywhere else that I've seen... although I noticed a funky smell by my couch Grrrrrrr...... Im tempted to give up on him. Anyone got any REAL ideas on how to deal with this problem? && What if he does it again without the rug being there? How can I fix my bad kitten?? And what the heck went wrong??

take the kitten that is peeing, and put his nose in it and spank him, but make sure that you don't wait along time to do it b/c he won't know what he is getting punished for... this way he knows the smell and knows that it is bad.. after you spank him, take him to the litter box and set him in it, even if he runs out, your are giving him an idea... next to get rid of the smell so the kitten can't smell it take white vinigar and scrub the spot, the kitten then can't smell it go back to the same spot... kittens attention span isn't that long, so be repeditive, if he keeps doing it... let him know that you are serious

Do not give up. Peeing twice is not a serious offense, and there's nothing worse than people who give up on innocent animals just because they are not perfect and know exactly what humans want. Take the kitty to the vet. There may be a medical problem, or the vet may have tips on how to teach him. Keep the litterbox in the same place and make sure it is easy to get into and out of (not a tight squeeze, not dirty, etc.) Just a note, do not clean up cat pee with bleach. The ammonia in urine will react to the bleach, creating a toxic gas.

I've got the same problem with my cat. We had him neutered, and he won't use the box. He may have peed in a spot that wasn't too clean and burned his little..... after surgery. My vet suggested that we get a large dog crate, put him and the litter box in the crate when we can't supervise him. He'll get the idea. Be sure to clean the area where he went with vinegar and water, or he'll for sure go there again. Good luck!

I dont suppose you had him declawed when you had him neutered?? this would be a common side effect from declawing if so....

remove the rug entirely it is obviously upsetting him for some reason

what kind of litter?? cats prefer non-scented clumping

is the litter box near the laundry machine?? it is possible that one time the landry machine changed cycles when he was peeing and now he is scared to pee in the box

How old was he when you had his nuts cut. If he was close to a year he may still spray, but if he is just out and out peeing on the rug you can try to get the smell out with Natures Miracle because just washing it isn't enough. You've got to get the smell out to see if he just has an attitude about his box or what.
Plus, make sure his box is clean and he can get in it. If he's really small maybe he can't. good luck

Wow. That is a tough one. How old is he? He might be mad at you for fixing him and this is his way of getting revenge. If you are around & see him even think about peeing in a wrong place, spritz him in the face with water. That should teach him he cant pee there. If nothing works I would talk to another vet. I have learned in the past that not all vets know whats going on (unfortunately).

Hope that helps!

If they had an accident somewhere they tend to go back to that spot as they stillhave the smell (yes often even after washing). There is a spray you can put down - something like Cat-Away - we cannot smell it but the cat will smell it and avoid the area ll toghether. Cats are very clean animals I bet if you give him more time he will adjust very well to your home.

well, i'm sure you know that a cat wont go in a dirty litter box, right? so you should be cleaning it every 2 days at most. and put it somewhere like the bathroom, or some other place that doesn't have carpeting...
if he does pee someplace other than the litter box, rub his nose in it, and put him in the box to correct him.
other than that, you could always train him to go outside.
