Yep, totally normal behavior for cats.
Please have the mama spayed. And any of the other cats you keep need to be fixed as well. If you can't pay, call animal control or the SPCA. They have programs to help.

If she is pregnant again, that may be a reason for being mean. But most of the time, after a while some mother cats just don't want anything to do with there children anymore once they hit a certain age. I don't know why they do that. And its not true with all mother cats either. Most of my cats it was true with, but two of my mother cats love there children, still and they are like 6 or 7 years old. ( in human years)

kitten went missing?? how does a kitten go missing?? you shouldnt be letting kittens (or adult cats) out of the house untill they are spayed and neutered

she is mean to her kittens because she wasnt meant to be a mom - same reason some people are mean to their kids
poor kitty

if you loved her she would be spayed and yes you can spay her NOW even if she is pregnant... unspayed females have more health risks and obviously this kitty doesnt want to be a mom...

THOUSANDS of kittens are euthanized EVERY DAY because there are more kittens born than there are homes for - YOU can help end the cruelty by spaying your kitty.. even if you find homes for every one of your kittens it means somebody else will not....

Yes, my mother-in-law's cat is doing that right now. She now has an amazing litter of 7 kittens. But, before she had them, the 2 kittens from her first litter were constant abuse targets. It's totally normal.

It is not unusual for mama cats to push their older offspring away. It may appear mean, but all they are doing is helping the kitten become independent cats.

But don't worry . . . if those kittens remain with you, the mother cat will eventually tolerate them as she would any other adult cat in the household (she may even groom them from time to time!).

I think she has completed her mothering - three months is an awful long time for kittens to be with their mother. In nature she would have left them a long time ago and they would be taking care of themselves, she is only doing what comes naturally.

I think she's trying to wean them and they just keep hanging around---so if she wacks them a few times they will learn to be independent --we may never understand the situation, and thinks its mean--but thats they way it is in the animal kingdom.

This is natural. She is encouraging them to go out in the world to find their own hunting territory.
