Funnily enough, I came across this question in another form earlier today - where someone said "God bless you" and got a snippy "I don't believe in God or the Bible actually" in response.
The difficulty is in communication across viewpoints. While the well-wisher (the person saying "God loves you") is well-intentioned and thinking only positive things, some non-believerss hackles go up instantly, because to share "God loves you", to their ears sounds like "there is a god, no matter what you think, and he loves you even if you don't believe in him, and I, being one of his believers, am able to convey a blessing from him on you, the unbeliever". In other words, some non-believers feel like the well-meaning blessing is demeaning to their worldview, and even condescending because it assumes the "rightness" of Christianity.
I know Christians are usually very well-meaning when they do this, and might even feel hurt that their blesings are taken in such poor part by non-believers, but it's often this feeling of being condescended to that makes non-believers offended when people say "God loves you".
Hope that helps.

People get offended when you tell them that, knowing they do not believe in God, because it essentially denies the validity of their own beliefs. They don't want you to come back with your religion, they want you to accept that they have their own beliefs. Since those beliefs don't include God, continuing to press your point that God exists by saying this nonexistent being (in their eyes) loves them is being a little disrespectful. It is evidence of a refusal to accept that they don't follow your beliefs and pressing that your beliefs are right.
Believing in God should not be about what makes you warm and fuzzy inside. It should be about whether you have faith and whether you feel the religion is correct. So it doesn't matter what people WANT to believe. It is what their convictions support. After all the evidence is on the table, these people simply cannot accept that this God could be real. It doesn't make any sense to them and it won't for everyone.
"Believe nothing. No matter where you read it or who has said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." --The Buddha

God is love and some people are in denial of love, so the idea of a God that loves them may not make sense to people who were not shown that love as a child, or even as an adult. Simply trying to inform them is not always the best way to connect them with God's Love. The best way is to love them unconditionally, regardless of what they choose to believe, and recognize that they may carry a wound deep inside where they have closed down to receiving Love from God. This way, a human being can be an emissary of God's Love and have a healing effect by demonstrating it instead of just preaching it. Not saying that you were preaching, but I am sure you are aware that some people do far more preaching about God than demonstrating the perfection of the underlying unity in the Creation. We could unite the world in love by simply living and demonstrating the things that Christ taught, like love thy neighbor, love thy enemy, and forgive each other, without ever attaching these teachings to a religion. Infact this is where we are stuck, because people are making it about believing in books that contradict each other, when the message and healing power of love transcends all of that. The more you can open your heart and demonstrate love without using the world God, or bringing religion into it, the more you will bring people closer to God, who is the source of all Love. It is easier for an atheist to accept your love than to accept the love of something they can't scientifically prove. Whenever you are in a situation when someone needs love or compassion, just ask yourself, if God couldn't be there, and sent you instead, what would you do to represent the wisdom and compassion of unconditional love. Just accepting people as they are will build a bridge across any divide. If you can really accept people unconditionally into your heart and show them love through your own devotion to it, you just might make a believer out of someone.

i believe that some people dont believe in God because of the household they cam from. I also think that they dont want to believe in God is because they dont have anyone to tell them about God. The reason they probably get affended is because they may get embarrassed. Maybe they dont want everyone knowing that they dont believe in God. All i can tell you is pray that the people who get offended with find away to find him.

Oh this is a goodie!
1. No"proof" - well there is LOTS of "proof", just don't want to see it.
2. If you accept God's love- and his promises, you might just have the Holy Spirit poking you all the time to change- that is too much work for a person who doesn't believe.
3. Lost people do not want light shining on their sins. They don't want to FEEL guilty or convicted about lying, stealing, cheating, neglecting, hating... etc. They WANT to live in the dark so they can continue to "look out for #1- themselves.
I am NOT saying ALL people who do not believe in God do those things, but WE ALL are sinners. Church-goers and believers included. EVERYONE is DESERVING of Gods love. No if's and's or but's about it. You have to accept it beofre its yours though. I hope this helps...

I understand you. But be not dismayed because the Word of God said it would happen. He said in the last days that perilous times will come, etc. Do what I do and keep trying. There will be some that you will reach. For others, when they reject you they reject God not you. You have done what was required of you. The Word of God never falls on hollow ground. He said it will accomplish the purpose that He has set for it to. They have itching ears but they don't want to hear. They have eyes but they do not want to see. There will be a day that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue must confess that He is Lord. May God Bless

To tell me god loves me or everyone when I see all the pain and suffering in the world makes no sense. In the time I take to type this hundreds of people, hundreds of children die and suffer through no fault of their own. I'm told this is because he has a plan but nothing ever changes. To accept than plan idea is insanity.
If he loves everyone he should fix the problems NOW
I believe he doesn't exist so all the suffering makes sense to me, it's just people being people

Look at the world around you. Look at all the people who die a terrible death of hunger, thirst, disease, disaster etc. Look at all the rape, the torture, the unspeakable horrors that people inflict on innocent children. Look at the abuse, murder, persecution, cruelty, savagery and so on. Reflect on how many people have been executed by being burned alive, ripped apart, impaled on stakes, skinned alive and killed in a thousand other agonising ways.
Would you really want to be told that a loving and benevolent god presides over all this?. That would be not only staggeringly stupid, but also more than a little offensive, would it not?

John 3:19-20
19 Their judgment is based on this fact: The light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. 20 They hate the light because they want to sin in the darkness. They stay away from the light for fear their sins will be exposed and they will be punished.
They do not want to know about God's love, because the know in thier hearts that they are responsable for the price of thier sins. When you tell them of God's love, you should also includ his forgiveness.

Your answer to the first question is that probably they are non christians or they have lost their faith for some reason and so find no meaning in pursuing a God that does not exist for them. Perhaps they want God to fall into their plan of life when it is actually the other way around!
For the second question,I know of some people in Africa who believe in God and think it is cool to be a christian but they don't have that faith experience in God to experience that intimate relationship with him. Then there are those who are like doubting Thomas the apostle, who must see to believe. If you are one of those who is NOT like Thomas, then blessed are you for today you will be in paradise with the Lord!
