I am looking into purchasing an affordable 4-wheel drive car, truck, jeep, etc.. BUT not an SUV. I don't need anything that huge. A Dodge Durango is probably the biggest vehicle size I'd buy.

I like the VW Jetta, but I don't think those are 4-wheel drive. If it's a truck, one with an extended cab.

I'll be moving to UT where it snows, so I need a reliable car.

Thanks! :o)

Well, a Dodge Durango IS an SUV and so are virtually all Jeeps, so you're going to need to make up your mind.

There aren't a lot of non-SUV 4-wheel (or more correctly, all-wheel) drive vehicles. The Ford 500 is avialble with AWD. All Subarus are AWD. Audi does some AWD models, as do Mercedes and BMW, but be prepared to spend a LOT on those.

If you would consider something the size of a Dodge Durango (but remember, it IS an SUV!) then have a look at the Toyota RAV4. They get far better gas mileage than the Durango -- which by the way is one of the worst on the road when it comes to fuel economy -- and are similarly priced. Reliability is just about the best of anything on the road today, where the Durango is one of the worst. The Honda CRV is also a worthy choice.

If you want a reliable 4-wheel drive, get a Subaru. I've had two, and I put 140,000 miles on the first. I sold it with 225,000, and I still see it around. They're reliable, easy to fix, and fun to drive. Plus, when you move to Utah you'll see that everybody else has one. If you get a wagon, you've got as much or more cargo space than most small SUV's, and still get 30 mpg.

my mother in law just bought a Honda, called real time four wheel drive, other than that it two wheel drive if one of the wheel slip they all four kick in just and only when this occurs, other than that it look like a regular Honda sort of like a SUV, but it not classed as one, low center of gravity and seats six adults but if in the snow for say it automatic tuns into a four wheel drive vehicle, , ford has the same type vehicle Buy the ford

Subaru. You want gas mileage to be your foremost decider. Gas will be $5-6 within a couple years. Subee's are reliable like other Japanese cars. If you can find a hybrid that may be a thought.

It's true, the Toyota Tacoma is the absolute best vehicle given what you're looking for. I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Believe me it will handle the snow, and pretty much anything else you can throw at it.

WHat is wrong with a RAV4? it is a small SUV and you can get a third row seat....I kinda like the room in it too....wish I had looked at it before I bought my minivan...I was leaning towards the Sequoia but the RAV4 does what I needed...and bonus! Ithink you can get 4WD.

Check the Subaru line of vehicles. As a Colorado high country resident, I see more and more of them, and hear good reports.
