The vet used to tell me to feed them a can of tuna (packed in vegetable oil not water) once a week. Digger loved it as a treat and it definitely made his coat shine.

I was just at the vet Saturday with almost the same question. What can I do to help my dog's skin to not be flaky and to help her coat. The vet suggested fish oil as an inexpensive treatment and it also may help my dog's arthritis. So I'm trying it.

If your dogs coat is not growing well, and it doesn't have a natural gloss to it its because of its diet, or you are giving it to many baths. You should consult a vet. Good luck.

There are special dog foods that you can get. Ask your vet or talk to someone at a pet store. I know nutro-max has a type for that!
