It can be very expensive. If the wrap is not torn or anything I probably wouldn't be to concerned. But if anything does tear the wrap you could have some areas of concern. I worked for a plant where wehad asbestos removed and it was $2000.00 for a 10X20 foot room. But that was tile on the floor and som insulation in the ceiling. I would call different places the specialize in this and get a few estimates and then make your decision.

If none of the insulation gets disturbed, if none of it is "friable" (fibers are getting in the air), then there is no risk. If a little gets into the air and you spend a little time there, there is a litle risk. If there is a lot in the air (not that you can see those fibers) and you spend a lot of time there, then your risk is high.

Those are all qualitative terms, but the actual concentrations and airflows can be measured to quantify the risk. But what I am trying to convey if that the presence of asbestos is not the problem. Asbestos fibers in yoru breathing air is the potential problem.

The large dose you might get while removing it is usually much more risk than you would get occasionally passing by it. Certainly if it is in good shape - not worn and losing fibers.

The cost? By an asbestos abatement contractor? A few thousand.

Here's what I would do:

Purchase a respirator and eye protection
Tear if off and store in plastic bags in the garage
Little by little add it to your regular trash in plastic grocery bags

My reasoning... all landfills are lined (otherwise they would be called a dump) and yet they will rape you when it comes to disposing of this material... like it goes into some special landfill... BS. Same landfill (in most cases)

Almost forgot... it's not that hard to remove when properly attired... take a utility knife (razor blade) and slice the insultion around the pipe in about a 3 foot section. Then slice this section lengthwise. Try to stay even with or about the pipe as gravity will be your friend in this job. Throw that section into a plastic bag, tie it off and set aside... keep going!

We desperate to transform our linked storage right into an excellent eat-in kitchen. My husband started demo on the partitions and got here across some stable wall and a million/2 into it it quite is grew to become into asbestos!(the storage grew to become into extra basically approximately 15 years in the past in accordance to the precis and contact business enterprise). for sure worried, we contacted an area contractor approximately the thank you to correct get rid of and get rid of it. The contractor suggested that it would value upwards of $3000 to have him come out, get rid of and dispose it. Or, shall we placed on mask, spray the asbestos boards with water to maintain the airborne dirt and mud down and triple bag it. We paid $a hundred seventy five to our community landfill to "dispose" of it from there. whilst certainly tearing it out, it broke off in extremely stable sized chunks and basically took some entire of 8 hours (over 2 days) to tear it down. stable success!
