Has he had allergy testing? If he has and it showed that he was allergic to animal dander then it may. I would ask his doctor or allergist before I purchased one. I have asthma also, and I'm allergic to animal dander. I have a cat anyway and always have. Dogs too. I'm more allergic to pollen than animals, so I can deal with it. Maybe you should expose him to someone else's pet and see how he reacts. That way you don't get the hamster and then have to give it away later. You can kind of find out before hand.

I'm 21, I have asthma and I have always had pet hamsters, still do :-). It depends what usually triggers his asthma. If the cage is really dirty then it sets mine off, but if I keep it clean then it's fine. Also if cleaning the cage causes his asthma to act up buy him one of those medical masks, it works wonders. :-)

Can yes do they.
I grew up with asthma. There were simply things that I could not have or could not do. I still wanted them but having sometimes cured the wanting. Make sure he makes the connection that part of the reason he is sick is the hamster.
Adults and teenagers have that problem with other things. They want sex, but they don't want babies. Sometimes we don't make the connections. Again, make sure your son connects his illness to his pet. Fortunately, when he is seriously gasping for air he won't have the strength to strangle the little rodent, so get rid of it for him--after he makes the connection that the fun rat isn't funny right now.

Can you REALLY be THIS bad at grammar? I mean, do you know how ILLITERATE you sound?
Anyway, I would skip the hamster and anything else with fur on it. Yes, it can make your kid's asthma worse.

depends what is causing his asthma. i suggest he go to a store and handle one and see how he reacts. they can cause a reaction but it's person specific. some will be bothered, some won't. does he have a friend with one that u could borrow for a wknd? if it doesnt work out get him a fish & explain why u cant get the hamster.

I have asthma and I have been very allergic to hamsters. It's the fur and dander. Fur and feathered pets can cause allergies to worsen.

Unfortunately, little furry things as a rule do not mix well with asthma. Between the shed fur and dander, and what has to be done to keep the cage clean, reactions are almost inevitable.
