Religion is basically a myth, with some truth thrown in for good measure. The myth provides such enormous psychological comfort to the believers that, with the partial truth thrown in, the entire religious structure appears to be as real as the shining sun at noonday. It is all based on the ENORMOUS PSYCHOLOGICAL COMFORT that the myths generate.

I completely agree with your assessment. I wonder how bad the theists are going to flame you for it, or if they will bother to respond at all.

Maybe you'll get bible quotes "proving" that the god of the bible is the one & only true god.

that always cracks me up. It's no different than saying "My god is the only true god, because he says so".

*sigh* When that's the level of critical thinking we get from theists, no wonder it's difficult to have a conversation with them.

You are kinda right, but the truth is that all religion is an attempt to define a set of rules or doctrinal idealism to explain an experience with The TRUTH. God and Truth are synominous and cannot be separated by religion. Truth will stand alone long after all religions are gone. God is reality and cannot be defined by anybody completely. What we know is that we need Him as part of our being to be playing with a full deck. If you cannot deal with the word God, we will just call it TRUTH. Truth is that God exists and is a necessity to a complete human experience. No religion has all of the answers but, but God has all the answers. Why not
simply hook into the source. God is not religious, He is REAL.

Actually, myths normally start off with truth... and then the legend builds from there. It's the idea that no matter what situation they have gotten themselves into, there is something/someone watching over them while they work thru it.

I'm not sure why people seem to be so annoyed with what others find comfort in. I couldn't care less if they find comfort in it... so long as they aren't screaming that we're all going to hell while trying to convince us they are peaceful. *Shrug*

yes. they also slowly believe in their religon even though the myth part is shown, they still through the little truth believe.
the fact that they 'know' that there is someone watching after them and that there is life after death, they believe it cause it seems like life has an actual purpose and we are not an accident.

If thats true then how do you explain the Bible, the people who died for it,The people who got persucuted, The reason we came to America by the Quakers who wanted to come to this country to have the freedom to pray, The president George Washington prayed to defeat the British wich he did? Our country has won every war because of God if you see any other way that's your problem. God has died for us and people have died fr Him. We are in this war because we want to defend our country. And if we want to defend our country so that we can pray than I don't see any other reason why you have to put us down. Because when you put us down you put our country and our whole life down. Including God.

No one--atheists included--who is "faithful" in their beliefs ( or disbelief) admit that theirs is wrong. It's human nature. The question is: 'how to check independently the truth, or falsity of one's position'?

My God is not a myth, nor is His Word. God is OUR creator and maker.

you should replace 'comfort' with 'disorder' instead then it's a logical statement.
