Yes it is strange but it shouldn't hurt her. It's a unique way of keeping her entertained.

Actually, what your cat sees on the tv screen is lines zipping across the screen instead of pictures of animals. There was a news clip on ABC News a few years back about this topic. No, this is not unusual and as I recall from the news clip, there is no health hazard for the cat.

Wow, your cats must be intelligent. :-) I heard someone told me once that dogs and cats don't have that type of intelligence to realise that the box (i.e. the TV) shows programs for viewing pleasure and also don't have a long attention span like us to watch such things. Anyway, when I had my old analogue TV, my British Short-hair cat didn't give any attention to the programs in the TV. However, when I got my flat screen digital TV I have noticed she started to sit in front of selected programs to watch it. Most of these programs would be "action" based programs/movies with a selected pitch in the noise. However she only 'watches" for about 5-15mins.

One of my cats likes animal planet too. She sits on the floor in front of the tv and follows all the movements, with her little head going back and forth. She gets bored when there's not a lot of action and wanders off, so I can't say she watches it for hours, like yours. Your cat will probably love video catnip...videos made just for cats!

There is nothing wrong with your cat! LOL She is as interested in Animal Planet as her human counterpart. I had a cat who was interested in other cats and people. She would sit on the window sill of our house and watch the everyday goings on outside. When she seen something she didnot like (or someone), she would be restless and follow who ever it was, hisses at them, and would not stop until they were gone.
Your cat is interested in this because she just is! Nothing wrong with your cat at all. I like the Animal Planet channel myself (Animal Cops are my favorite)!

Me & my husband have 2 cats and both of them watch TV too!
They love animal plant and sometimes they even watch cartoons.
One of our cats is super smart and the other is a bit mentally challenged but they both watch TV. They are both very healthy. One of them has asthma but he has had it for quite some time and it is under control. No worries there.
We even bought them a movie thats just for cats called "Cat Sitter" from our local PetSmart and they absolutely love it!

One of my cat's likes animal planet, too...especially 'Meercat Manor'...LOL It seems that she is the most intelligent of the 3...so maybe there is a connection.
Yeh, it's pretty normal for some cats to watch TV. They even have videos made specifically for cats....how crazy is that?!?!?

its fine.
enjoy the time together, maybe she wil learn something, like how to take down prey
:)
you guys can go hunting together. I did that with my cat. we would wait by a curb on a quiet street where tall grass was and listen. i would wait far away from him and if i heard something I would signal him and he would come and get it(only worked twice)
but it was fun because after he would take the mouse to he middle of the Coldisack (small deadend street surrounded by houses) and he would let it go and i would block the mouses path and force it to run back towards him.
good times.

my cats do that all the time, it's so cute. sometimes he will climb up on top of the tv and look down on it and paw at the screen.
he will also sit next to me when I'm playing on my laptop and watch the pointer go back and forth and all. so fun!

That sounds perfectly healthy, your cat has good recognition and perception. It's not unusual, my cat used to watch t.v ALONE! :)
