She's just over a year old- Ausie/?? mix. Two or 3 days ago, I noticed that she had these red spot on her belly. I looked closer, and they were ZITS... WTF? Do I treat them like acne, like on my own face- scrub, put ointment on them.. I don't want her licking it off and getting sick, but I still want to get this taken care of.

I don't really think it's a food issue- we've been giving her the same brand since we got her when she was 2 months old... unless she's developed an alergy to her food...?

... And if one more person says to go to the vet, I'm gonna scream!! DUH- I know I should go to the vet, but do you know how much $$$ that's gonna be.. yeah, thanks...
In the meantime, I'm looking for things it might be, things I want to be sure to bring up when I finally DO go to the vet... (Is "stupid" stamped on my avatar's forehead??)

Sounds like it is canine acne.. but I'm not a vet..

We knew a dog who had Dermatitis... the vet gave them meds for it ...

I think it is best if you take him to the vet or call them and explain they might be able to help you quicker..

My dog's tummy looked exactly like that two weeks ago, and I took him to the vet. Turns out he has allergies. I had to modify his diet and the vet also gave me some antihistamine spray. If it's severe, they might possibly prescribe a steroid. Fortunately, my dog is responding to the diet changes and the spray, so he didn't need the steroids.

Definitely take him to the vet. I'm sure he's uncomfortable, and only a doctor will know exactly what he needs.

First, contact your vet for the right answer...but my dog had something similar at 6 mths and our vet recommended Phisoderm scrub. Lightly scrub the area with it and rinse well. The heat can cause several different skin irritations on pets!

Also, there is an OTC supplement that you can use to maintain good skin and coat on your pet. It is called Lipiderm made by International Veterinary Sciences and is sold in pet stores (white bottle with blue and yellow print) in capsules or liquid. We used the liquid on our previous dog, Australian Cattle Dog, when she had doggie dandruff and it worked wonderfully.

You shouldn't use products for human skin on your dog!Besides you don't know what it really is. You should ask a Vet. Have you changed your dogs food recently?I had some experiences with my Sheltie like yours and I changed his food to all kinds of brands before settling on Natures Recipe, now all his skin problems have cleared up. Good luck! And please ask a Vet for help.

It is pyoderma. THe vet will give you antibiotics and frequently a Bensoyl Peroxide shampoo, or another medicated shampoo.
Pyoderma is very common in the summer months.

Your vet can prescribe an antibiotic to take care of that. Also, there is an antibiotic shampoo that you may be able to get over the counter.
